Post by Kurt » Tue Jun 30, 2009 7:22 am

We are going to start a water trail in N.W. AR. Tuesday June 30 we are going to paddle Lake Sequoah in east Fayetteville. If you are interested in paddling meet us there at 6:30. A small fee is charged to access the lake.

A water trail is like the terrestrial counterpart a set of access points to an area of interest. The water version requires less construction work. Our vision is to make the great paddling options in Arkansas a little easier to access and enjoy. We hope to provide waypoints, mileage estimates and general knowledge about bodies of water so all the boaters can possibly get out a little easier and more often. We are just starting in N.W AR. Three of us enjoyed a small discovery cruise on lake Sequoyah last night. We paddled a slough, the river channel saw herron, duck, deer and either a beaver or Sessie the lake Sequoyah equivalent of the loch Ness monster. Anyway, I had a great time and am inspired to dust off my original boat a perception acadia and enjoy slipping silently through great Arkansas wilderness. I forgot how nice that is while I've been chasing excitement down streams. You are invited to our next journey.

The last couple of winters when there hasn't been ww, I've been taking my little flatwater canoe (Mohawk Solo 14) out on swamp paddles and it really is a wonder to glide quietly through the blackwater and I've gotten to see very interesting wildlife on those paddles. While it's a whole different experience than the "thrill" of bouncing down a ww creek, for me I have found that it's just as soul-satisfying.

Good luck with your water trail up there!

Paddling: it's all good! :D

Cheers,
Heather

Bravo, Heather!! Excellently said!

Your prepossessing paddling prowess is equalled by your perfectly powerful, poetic prose presentation!!! It's good to see all sides of paddling recognized. Quiet water paddling got me started and totally hooked, whitewater keeps the passion strong. Have a good trip Thursday. Wish I could get off work.

Are you already working with AGFC? If not, they're looking for partners to help do exactly what you're doing. Send me or DeBo a PM and we'll forward you some contact info on who to talk to. Could be a win-win - AGFC gets to expand their program; you get some help promoting and some funding for informational signs, etc...
