Got Susan out for a 4 mile paddle tonight. Moon came up slowly at first and looked like a forest fire as it rose through a far wooded ridge and then climbed it way up through the clouds very golden. Had wind in our faces on the way out from the front going through, but could feel the current from the Corps drawing water to generate on the way home when you got in the wandering channel of Monte Ne cove. Beautiful night to paddle. Susan's first moon light paddle of the year. Hope to do many more.

Cathey & I joined the Bayou chapter of the Ozark Society for about a 5 mile moonlight float up and back on Dorcheat Bayou in Webster Parish, Louisiana.

Nice catfish & shrimp dinner at the turn around.

Not a single set of red eyes to be seen, much to Cathey's relief and my disappointment, but we did most of the float lights out, with the moon so bright.

Also, saw an immature eagle on a nest right above a barn. I'm told there's a squirrel's nest in the bottom of the eagle nest, so far without any casualties. Guess the eagles are keeping them in the cupboard in case company comes.

It was a short outing, but much needed - I'm about to crawl out of my skin with cabin fever - timber market is down, so I haven't even been working in the field much (I may go the whole year without killing a tree - this is where all my tree hugging friends go "Huzzah!") - mowing grass is about as close as I come to getting outside recently.

My son & I decided to take a moonlight paddle of about 100 yards Friday evening. Lurking in the cove was an AGFC officer with ticket pad & all. :shock:

I took my 1st moonlight paddle Saturday night at Lake Ouchita. I put in around 10 and visited a few coves across the lake. The ranger had told me to visit one in particular to see some beavers. They were definately there. I'm glad i knew the sound of the tail-slap as the 1st one was about 5 feet from me. I left them alone as I felt I was infringing on them and went to some other coves where the frog music was grand! I finished my loop around midnight.
