Don't give up.

I've dropped mine in, opened the back, sun-dried it, and used it for a couple of more years.

I found another that had been underwater for more than a week, after river levels dropped. Again, I dried it, was able find a compatible charger, after a day of charging was able to power it up, and retrieved the original owner's phone numbers and returned the phone.

Even if the phone is history, if you have a SIM card, it can most likely be inserted in another phone at the cell phone store, and your numbers recovered.
