Hey Guys and Gals, I have a quick question about an upper section of the Buffalo. I've run Ponca to Kyle's a million times but have never paddled any lower than that. Our group is planning a two day trip from Kyle's to Hasty and am wondering the following:
-What's the water like? lot's of slow moving pools etc...
-Any good half way points to camp?
-lastly, do you think that a trip from Kyle's to Hasty is too long for two days?

Re: Buffalo Question
Michael, when are you planning to float? Right now its questionable on the upper river. When the water is running, Kyles to Hasty is not too many miles for two days. Margaret(Stan) Bartell and I ran Kyles to Carver in late April and the water level at Ponca was right at 3 feet, right now the gage this pm was right under 2 ft. You would be foolish to try it. You would be dragging alot. A few of us are doing Woolum to tyler bend on thursday-friday. I will be hanging around tyler bend area all weekend if you are interested in floating that section, call me. Am leaving thursday am so you need to call tuesday or wedsnesday. Pam 479-544-6263
Re: Buffalo Question
Thanks for the input. We are planning to float Saturday (6th) and Saturday (7th). We're crossing our fingers for the Teus, Weds, and Thurs rain but if that doesn't occur, I guess we will implement Plan B. How’s the trip from Woolum to Tyler Bend?
We are just looking for a fun two day excursion with water and good camping. Anyone have other ideas?

Re: Buffalo Question
all the outfitters will be putting canoes in at pruitt and floating them to hasty on the upper district.... >> a good over-nighter would be from carver to woolum..... the shuttle blows!! and that stops alot of them from taking on this section..but it is about the best for the water levels this weekend! .. a little side note!>>the park rangers are out in full force! along with the sheriff dept. doing road blocks at key locations around 3:pm
park rangers are hauling off intoxicated people from the campgrounds, and writing speeding tickets in record numbers this year !!
