Hometown Throwdown -- June 13 (1st in series)

Post by Jeremy M » Fri May 29, 2009 12:07 pm

Alright, so I eluded to this series of events in an earlier post about 2 months ago, but the first Hometown Throwdown event is scheduled for June 13. Subsequent throwdowns will be held on the second Saturday of every month.

What is Hometown Throwdown? H.T. is a national rodeo series presented by WorldKayak.com and a host of other national sponsors designed to promote local paddling and the local paddling community. Prizes are awarded on a participation basis, so that this event is FUN for everyone that participates. I've got a big box of prizes including ShredReady helmets, Smith Optics, Mountain Khakis, etc....etc...etc...

The first event will be held at Dierks and the format of the rodeo will be FREESTYLE THROUGH A RAPID!! 2 minutes or so, to show what you can do, utilizing all of the features at dierks or just a couple of them. The back up location, if Dierks is not runnning, will be Rockport.

I'll need some volunteers for Judges (read free frosty  ) and of course anyone and everyone that wants to particpate. Travis and I should be camped out that whole weekend. So come on down to Dierks, June 13 for HOMETOWN THROWDOWN!!!

You could get Shelby, Jack H's girlfriend or Jenny, Harlan's girlfriend since they hung out and watched all weekend. They know what to look for

I'll second that- she doesn't need an invitation to criticize Harlan's paddling.

Adam took his beatdown gracefully. Harlan was downright entertaining. The hole got me several times and I had to go for a cool dip, but I kept going back for more - the hole was not gonna win!

I just found this being new to the site. Water shouldn't be a problem that is for sure!
How many camp sites do you all think will be needed? I will work on reserving the sites
if needed. I will talk to Tiffany in the morning and see what we can do to help out. If I can
help out email me at triggtom1@yahoo.com

Just spoke with Tom from Horseshoe bend (Dierks campground) and barring any big storms, there WILL BE WATER for Hometown Throwdown! He also told me that they are going to get the mowers out and clear some overflow tent camping spots. You all need to come out and show what you got!! (on the water that is, Dierks is family friendly) Travis and I will be down on Friday night getting set up and ready for the big event on Saturday.

Repeating, IT IS A GO!

Tom is also going to try and get a lot of the campsites reserved, so we're assured campsites. Gonna be a great weekend down at Dierks on June 13. You won't want to miss this!

Just remember that this is a laid back event, as far as the judging and prize awards go, there may even be a category for best carnage!! Depending on how many show up, we'll split folks into categories as well, a la, ladies and men and kids...open boats and kayaks, etc...

A reminder: At Dierks, the "road" that folks have been parking at down by the river is not actually a road and they only ask that we not drive down there and park.

Thanks everyone for your support and definitely thanks to Tom and the Corp for being on board with this event.

I would just like to add that if you haven't been to our camp gound before I will be happy to give you directions. Also keep in mind that our little EF3 tornado back in April took out the sign pointing to the camp ground from the top of the ridge! By the way you notice still a lot of debree coming down to the park but the camp ground was largely untouched. We have good reliable water now, the showers are NEW and we try to keep them clean. If you need to contact me my email is triggtom1@yahoo.com also I will be glad to give my cell # if you needed. By the way this is a UNPAID position! We just love it here!

yall come,

If I can get down in time I'd be happy to do some judging. And as long as I get to play some, everything will be good!

Thanks Bob, that will be great! A quick note on judging/judges...I'm gonna need a total of 4 judges and the only real requirement is that you are familiar with modern playboating moves...ie blunt, cartwheel, loop, splitwheel, etc...being able to recognize when they are thrown....that and the ability to have A LOT OF FUN!! All will be explained and determined on Saturday morning, per Hometown Throwdown and WorldKayak.com....The whole idea is for us to run the rodeo ourselves...by our rules, with some guidelines from them so all of the national standings remain somewhat consistent...

Can't wait to see ya'll out there!
