Do any of you guys have motel suggestions that are not chains around Arkansas? Small, clean, inexpensive? Hot Springs, Jasper, Harrison, anywhere in Newton or Searcy County??

haven't you done this before?

Early last spring we ate at a place right on hwy 7. Address sez Deer, AR but they are north of the 16 turn off. West side of road, nice balcony, good food, resonable ... the manager came and visited with us a bit after seeing our kayaks. We saw the rooms, nice size and seemed clean.

Log Cabin Inn 870-428-5409 she had cabins too

"clean" Forget Searcy county unless something has come up. Let me know if it has happened.

Ditto Clif. It's clean! And reasonably priced. Large rooms. Name has reverted to The Lazy Apple Inn, but phone #'s the same.

I've stayed a couple of times at Silver Hill in a cabin. Check out Buffalo River Outfitters. The cabin was real nice. Have fun!!

Actually I'm thinking about taking a few days and just exploring Arkansas backroads and small towns slowly with my two girls staying at mom and pop motels. I don't camp in heat. :) Especially with two teenage girls.

It's been several years now but we stayed in a cabin owned by the folks at Silver Hill Outfitters (hwy 65 just before the Tyler Bend turn off). The cabin we stayed in was clean, large, air-conditioned, quietly isolated but still convenient ,and we only had a few miles to go down the road to Gilbert to dine at Riverside Kitchen at the time.

Don't forget that Buffalo River State Park has cabins, with a great restaurant as well. It overlooks Buffalo Point.
Have Fun!

Try Ozark Bluff Dwellers, they have 3 cabins and depending on when you make your trip you might be able to find one open night. There is a real good reason these three cabins are booked a year in advance. I have stayed in 5 or 6 different cabins in the Ozarks and these are by far and I mean really far the best ones. It has all the comforts of home with one of the most awesome views of the Buffalo Valley there is to be had! And there are really nice fire rings with plenty of wood to burn outside. It’s a $150 a night, I kind of look at inexpensive as relevant to what I am paying for. So I would say this is cheep for what you get. Cabins have Satellite TV ( a turn off for some ), Washer/Dryer, 3 bed room, Gas grill, 2 bath, real nice decks, fully furnished kitchen, and very well furnished for any home! And the list goes on and on!

BOC has some really nice cabins, but are a little more pricy without Sat TV a must for kids. But the cabins are really cool! Wild Bill has cabins! The Arkansas House is in Jasper across from Gordon’s

Happy Hotel and cabin camping, I with you on the camping in the heat deal. I hate to be hot and can't get cooled off!!!

oxford inn in Ozark

stayed there during canoe school a few years ago. Was clean then and only about 50 a night. Good beds. Close to lots of stuff. Was pretty full but still quiet. Ozark inn cafe across the street was good.

Arkansas Inn in Jasper sounds cool. I may try to get a room with them. I'm not interested in cabins. The goal if I do this is local color not necessarily relaxing in a cozy hideaway. + it's got to be cheap because I might be moving from place to place each night. Yes the Ozark Inn is exactly what I'm talking about. The odd fella that runs the place reminds me of Floyd the Barber from Andy Griffith. That's the kind of place I want to visit. And yes the Ozark Cafe is fantastic. Their is a cafe downtown that is also very good.

I've stayed in the Arkansas House in Jasper several times and liked it. It was very clean and everyone was nice and helpful.

Gordon needs all the help he can get. I seem to remember staying at a motel when we went up to the St. Francis in Mo. that Gordon had found online. It was an INTERESTING experience. BUT, it was cheap. :poke:

Highly recommend the cave cabin out why 16. By far one of the neatest and most bizarre places you could ever stay. The "cave man" as he terms himself transfomed an ozark cave that rests along a bluff line into a "cabin" with electricity, spring water, shower, bunk beds for your girls, queen size bed for you. There is a short hike down a trail, around a bluff and bam, there it is, an oasis in the ozarks. It has a wood burning stove inside that is equipped with chimney that escapes through the rock over head. I really cannot explain how cool this place is. There is fire ring outside, has a fridge and i think we paid around 50 dollars a night. It is all on private land behind a locked gate so the privacy is unbeatable. This place is unforgettable and beyond worth doing. The number is 479-790-2743. Go now.
