Good Day on the Caddo 1 0

Post by Jim Krueger » Mon May 18, 2009 9:17 am

I have been getting fidgety waiting for my knee to get better and growing gills waiting for the rains of the last three weeks to stop, but yesterday was a glorious day to be out on the Caddo and paddling again!
Beth (aquagirl) and family and friend melanie, and Marlo &I made it to Norman for a put-in. With nice blue skies and a water level just under 7 feet, the conditions were just great, we paddled from Norman down to the Swinging Bridge and had good current and many bouncy rapids! Thanks to all!

One note here; the bridge just below our take-out was blocked with half a dozen trees. While I was gone for the shuttle truck, Marlo made a couple of pictures of the bridge and some canoists trying to negotiate it... I'll bet Ron Kurnick, or John, two of the outfitters up there ,will take care of it when the water goes down some, but for now, beware. Jim

One advantage of being married to the person posting is that you can edit their message, so I'm taking advantage of that just to add that the normal path under the bridge immediately below the Old Swinging Bridge is on river right. That's blocked. There apparently is a path down the middle where you can do the Limbo  under one of the tree trunks or a path around the left end, but if you go around the left end, you can easily breach on a root wad. I watched all three (Limbo, successful left end, and breach--all canoes) yesterday. Marlo
