Post by coolhand » Thu May 14, 2009 9:19 pm

Am I the only one that has to many sorts to do. Kayakin, backpacking, rock climbing, fishing, hunting, Mt. biking, wheelin and so many outhers that I can't even think of them all, let alone do them all very oftin. Just wondering if it was just me that was like that.

You need a hobby dump! Since I discovered kayaking, I've dumped drumming, guitar playing, bagpipe playing, sudoku, chess, hockey, machining, and even fishing. Who'd have thought I'd ever dump fishing? That one goes back 35 years! Now I'm down to kayaking, hiking, and hanging with my son. I haven't missed that other stuff a drop!

I can't bring my self to dump any of them. I have so much money and memories invested in all of them. I can't get very good at any single one because I am to busey swaping around.

Got it! Yeah, letting go is hard. I'm just glad to have finally found something that can hold my interest. That, and I'm glad to have gotten past the initial cash outlay. It was a large one! Now I'm down to buying Pop-Tarts, Gatorade, and gasoline for the most part. That's a relief!

Kayaking, hiking, mtn. biking, saltwater aquarium, dorky nerd gaming, Mac's. Those are mine. I dumped the tank because with the funds I spent on the fish and crap, I could have bought 9 kayaks, 9 paddles, 9 PFD's, and a partridge in a pear tree. You can dump some like Dave says, and probably not miss them. I still have to do the outdoors, and I put that in ONE hobby category even though you have different equipment for each thing......Anyway, I am certain you aren't the only hobby hopper. Just have fun and live life. It's worth the investments on waht makes you happy. thats just my thoughts.

On the bright side, if you can do them all at a decent level, you're qualified to go on just about any trip someone can come up with. No need to stay at home because you can't "fill in the blank"

The days when you can climb arn't the days when you can boat though. When rocks wet it sucks. Nor would you want to backpack after a hard rain. Luke, I'm just going to ignore wheeling. I hear you about not having money for the stuff you want. The reality is, all those things are around all the time in Arkansas, except kayaking. It's around on varoius days of the year, and the only time you can slightly plan it is the few awesome weeks of spring. When are you gunna start hitting the steep creek soon? What're you and Patrick up to?
It could be worse, it could stop raining

I have been busey. I haven't talked to Partick in a while. I don't know what he been up to. One of these days I might hit steep creek, or any creek. Know it's going to be hard to do any of my hobbys with summer coming up I will have to work. "For a while"

Cool, combine your passions in life, it will promote harmony for you.

I had a much longer well thought out post, but true to form, the computer messed up and dumped it pre-post.
So the above statement is the condensed milk version.

Man o Man, these guys have nailed it.

I too, have a bunch of hobbies and a passion for each one. If possible, I like to combine boating, fishing, arrowhead lookin', camping, bike riding, and etc. Of course, it depends on time of year, water level, specific waterbody, and weather.

Sometimes I get burned out on disc golf, arrowhead lookin', hiking, biking, and so on.

Combine where you can, prioritize where you can, and realize that whitewater boating in arkansas is a "sometimes" hobby whereas others are a "anytime" hobby and look to do each hobby in it's optimal condition so that you can get the best out of your time/trip.

I try to combine as much as I can. It seems like school and work both get in the way alot more than I like.

Over the years I have acquired and dumped hobby/activities one by one, over and over just trying them out and sometimes not even finishing something I started.

Whether I did or not doesn't phase me, it was the curiosity I satisfied and I enjoyed the experiences and learned something about them and myself each time.

Do what you want when you can and don't carry any emotional baggage about any of it. Just enjoy what you do when you are doing it.

After all, you can always sell it at a yard sale.
