USGS Streamflows on Twitter

Post by nstahl » Wed May 13, 2009 12:26 pm

I found this really useful service that some of you guys might be interested in.

"This service allows you to use Twitter to get the most current streamflow data (stage, streamflow and water temperature) for a stream or river sent to your cell phone as a text message. (If you are online, you can also see it as a direct message or it can appear in your email inbox.) Note: not all sites record all these types of data. You will receive the data if it is served by the site. "

Any chance you can set it up to send you a text when a given river reaches a certain stage? My own personal "Hey I'm up come paddle me" river paging service would sure be cool.

I'm following stream_flow but I cannot get the direct message function to work yet. Any tips?

That would be a pretty cool feature for that Twitter bot. I'm pretty sure they could add that type of functionality to the system. If I was you, I'd email the guy and see if it's possibly something he could add in the future.

From what I've read, the guy apparently works with the USGS - National Water Information System, I think he's a web developer for them.
