Looking for Super Hero rigging tips

Post by David Lewis » Sun May 10, 2009 7:33 pm

Actually, I'm looking for Super Hero owners who can perhaps help me figure out what to do with this bag of foam rubber pads that came with my new boat. I got the foot blocks installed, no problem. It's the area around the knees and thighs that has me confused a bit. The pads with sticky on the back seem to be cut in a very specific and somewhat odd shape, but they don't match any shape I'm seeing in the boat. I'll explain further one-one one if you've been there and done that, thanks.

You can look here
http://www.jacksonkayak.com/kayaks/HowT ... nKayak.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

but I didn't see anything that exactly answered your question. But there is a phone number!

Also, how does the boat feel right now? If it feels pretty good, throw that extra foam in a closet. They always send "extra" to meet different people's needs. It's not like when you work on your engine - it is OK to have a few parts left on the floor when you are done!

Thanks, Cowper. It feels a little loose around the thighs. I think maybe the foot blocks are too thick for my long legs. I've got a SH owner, Max, who says he's got his dialed in, and i'm going to give him a call when I'm at the boat.

I did check the Jackson site, but, you're right, they don't really answer the question. The pads did come with printed instructions, but they were for different boats, not the Super Hero, which makes me wonder if the pads are for the Super Hero at all.

Some of the younger harder core playboaters like to be jammed in tight so's as to not loose their boat in the frothy stuff. I've seen center walls built up to literally lock a paddler in, somewhat like I have for my squirt boat.

Like Cowper said, save it till you think you know where you might like to add later for your comfort. You still might wind up purchasing some sheet foam more for creature comfort. Time in your new boat will dictate where you think you need to go with outfitting.

Play around with the seat position.

Some say it boats better stern heavy, others like bow heavy and some neutral.

This boat will feel different depending on the seat position. I do not think there is a hard and fast rule to follow.

To add to that look at where your knees line up which should be the peak of the curve on the outside of the boat (per the Jackson video). I moved my seat all the way up as I'm only 5'9" in my Superhero. The only pads I think you should have/need beyond the footbrace pads are the shims for the hip pads.

If your thighs feel loose you can try this product (Happy Seat), but be sure you can wet exit.

Been boating a lot so I had not seen this. If you still need help, give me a call and we can discuss.

I have my seat moved up a little. When I moved it too far forward, the boat seemed squirly, not as easy to control. So I moved it back but not all the way back. I did add more padding to the knee area to make it tighter and have the happy seat to hold my knees up and have wet exited fine with it inflated. My only problem and Scott, you might be able to help me there. In my hero, I have problems with only one side of my rt foot and toes getting numb. Any suggestions.

Thanks for the input, everybody. I'm going to jump back into it tonight and try a few things. I hope to have it in the pool Wednesday night.

Five, Five-thirty till seven. We are closing at Seven through the summer.

Please wash your boats before coming also, as our pool manager informed me that some type of fungus among us was brought into the pool recently, and feels it was kayak what dun-it. So please give it your best so we don't loose the pool.

Just a cap full of bleach whilst rinsing should kill most anything. And rinse thoroughly.

More often than not (IMO) if you're legs are going numb it's because your hip pads are too tight

My legs don't go numb, just my right foot and toes. I can put a hand beside me and the hig pads. I might try removing the pads and see what that does, just was afraid I wouldn't be tight enough to hip snap.

Mike, based on your tip I just ordered a happy seat, as well as the "Creek Float" foatation for the Hero. It's funny how easy it is to spend money on accessories when you got the boat for free!

Bob, this boat's never been wet, so I'll be fungus-free if I get to the pool Wednesday. But I'll make a good show of washing it off anyway.

you're right Karla, probably not the hip pads then, so it's either the way your thighs are supported in the thigh pad or how your foot is relative to the foot brace. Once options is to put foam where your heel rests on the bottom of the boat (but in my experience this doesn't last)
