Will Baker still be running tomorrow morning??

Post by Ryan Viser » Sun May 10, 2009 5:58 pm

So, according to our awesome Google Earth overlay tool, Baker and the Tot watersheds got hit w. 2-2.5 inches of rain. Tot is currently at 6.5 and going straight up. How long do you guys think Baker will hold? Will it be there in the morning?

I don't want to disappoint you so, yes it'll be there. Depending on what part of the watershed got the most water. The radar from earlier gave me the impression that most fell on the lower part, however the upper Tot evidently got a good drink. It could drop out before morning, however the Tot will still be up and roaring.
If I could break away, I'd meet you over there for a play run on either. I will sleep on it however and decide in the morning if I can go MIA at work tomorrow.

Later Ryan, Hope you get to paddle one or the other.

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking Baker may drop out before the morning light comes. I haven't watched it a whole lot, and you have to really be there to get a visual to know if it's running or not. But with that being said, in my limited experience, it seems like unless a crapload of rain falls, then you pretty much have to get there within maybe 6 hours or so of the rain or it'll be back to being too low. Does that sound about right??

We got on Baker at a good level around 2pm today. Then it rose and 2 others put on for the second lap and then it leveled out at a that higher level and we all put on again around 6:15. When we left at 8:30 this evening it was still running pretty good, but I'm not sure if it will be there tomorrow.

Cool deal. It doesn't sound like anyone I reached out to can go anyways, so it's probably a moot point. I wish that Baker didn't require a visual to gauge the level, otherwise I'd start working on one of them fancy predictor charts...maybe one weekend when I'm really bored I can sit at the takeout in a camp chair, with a cooler of beer, and just sit there and watch the level and take notes.

Don't know what the level was this morning, but this afternoon it was a good medium flow. :D

Seven of us followed the Baker run with an evening 5+ foot Tot run.

Hey that sounds like what I did on sunday, only in reverse order

It was my first run on Bakers and I had a blast with renee, jason, james, jeremy, and sabrina. What a good time

Glad you had fun on Baker with us. Me and Renee started to haul when with lighting started and got through before you. We ended up doing three runs and each one got bigger and better. Glad you had fun
