Bob Hedges Rock

Post by okieboater » Sun May 10, 2009 2:01 pm

At the putin for the First Timers Float, a memorial rock for Bob was placed in the Cossatot.

It is a good sized rock and joins two other memorial rocks placed in the river as a show of respect for those who loved the Cossatot but have moved on to other rivers

f anyone sees any of these rocks , please take a few moments to think good thoughts for the individual whose rock you found, replace the rock in the river and post your sighting here on the message board for all of us to share the experience.

Hey Dave: The Bob Hedge Rock was a super addition to an already great trip. Having so many of Bob's old and new friends around to be a part of the memorial is why we love this sport so much.

Bob loved the Cossatot and the people that boat the Cossatot. I will see his huge smile every time I paddle the Cossatot.

Walter...I wish you had let me know you planned this for Saturday. I didn't know you had the rock yet....and I could have been there a little earlier. :(

Sorry I missed it. Bob is the reson I am paddling today . he picked me up oneday on the tot. showed me what a roll was and I saw him do things that to this day I havent seen other boaters do. the freindliest guy you could meet , he was mad that i tried the river with out a roll and bymiself. he scalded me and taught me fairring .peelouts. and to surf abit . when I told him I was a woodcarver/woodworker , we bonded. we'd see each other on the river every great once and a while . the tots my stopping ground. and i owe alot to the late great cosatot Bob. for the inspiration. bobs health dwindled , then I meet Ramsey. a close freind of the family and another student of the school of blue. like myself. So whenever she comes up we always do a lap for the master . as we should never forget the greatones. R.R.>>>>>>>>>>we joke that when we're there that he is whatching over us, Ram-jam knows what I mean . some of you do to.keepig us safe . thanks, Robert.

What's the latest count on the rock released into the 'tot? From Dave's post and my recall, I can think of three. Am I correct? Are there any others in any other rivers?

I was glad to be there when Bob's rock went in the river. Big thanks to Walter for all the work on the stone and letting Ramsey place it in the water. For those of you who where not there it was a very touching tribute. Walter your work words fit perfectly. Ramsey is from Wickes and had become Bob's pet project, He is a wonderful young man and a great paddler, he took Bob's passing very hard but knows that Bob will always be at the Tot. I had the honor of paddle with Bob the last time he paddled and will never forget it. He was a truly great man.

My apologies for not contacting everyone that I should have or getting the word out better. There are others that I failed to get in touch with as well and I regret that. I was so focused on the First Timers Trip that I let that slip past. I wish more people could have been there. Bob will be missed. I expect that the rock should stay there for a little while. It took several high water events to move the ones for Phil Bruce and Bruce Burton and they were much small stones. Ramsey placed Bob’s in the exact same place that those two went in. So that confirms Rogers answer that as far as I know there are now 3 engraved stones in the river.
