Tot - Tree Damage

Post by Ryan Viser » Sun May 10, 2009 11:23 am

I don't know if we were the first ones on the Tot after it came down from being at 20 ft. or not but the tree damage we saw on Friday was insane!! I'm sure everyone on the first timers trip saw it as well. At Zig Zag, there was a big tree on the right when you get into the chute of water coming out of the big eddy pool, and it's completely uprooted and appears that the "catch the small eddy and paddle up and around the rock" move is gone now due to this. Also, the takeout trail down at 278 is non existent right now. All the trees where the trail was were mowed down by the water and you can't get through, which means you have to either eddie out on river left or be VERY careful eddying out on river right, right in front of the bridge. The road at sandbar bridge is pretty jacked up but is still driveable. The damage to the trees and what not seemed to get worse the further down river we got. Fortunately, there is no wood in any of the rapids or any new strainers that we saw. Level was about 4.2 and temps were in the upper 70's. Great day on the river w. Ricky Rod, Ramsey, Corey Welch, and Marshall.

Awsome runs Ryan,I have great respect for the open boaters. and according to me we must have been the first on after the flood of 09' cuz wen the RAM-JAM and I showed up at the sandbar bridge a huge log that had to be cut and winched, was across the bridge blocking the entrence, the root ball was still under the bridge . rams was pizzed so was I . he got some pic's of it. also the spin hole on double drop has a little more rocks that I got up-close and persenal with in it . watch youre nose if you get window shaded. and for must be the same reson that it handed me a mini thrashen. other gravel build ups. in stearn stall spots , but nothing mager. The main prob was at zigzag. the tree f#$kn up the attainment moves , It's gotta go < but the root of that tree not beeing there will change the water movment there for sure.
