Lee Creek Rd (big puddle of water)

Post by Mike_P » Sat May 09, 2009 10:42 pm

The road from Lee Creek Rd to the take out for the Lee Creek run had a HUGE puddle of water on Thursday evening. I don't recall that before, so assume it's a new washout. We buried our tires (if not deeper). How likely is it that will be addressed? Who is responsible for that road...the county?

We were out there last Wednesday, so unless it changed a great deal in a day, then the prefered route is to hug the left side of the puddle (a little in the brush if possible).

agreed. that puddle gets people in to trouble sometimes.....well if the are driving a low riding vehicle. But yeah far left is the best way to "ford" the pond!

Went boating on Lee last Wednesday and agree the road needs some work.

We can work with the Forest Service to get the roads at the put in and at the take out worked over. In the past the ACC has provided funding to purchase the gravel and the Forest Service has provided the equipment and labor to maintain these roads.

I would be happy to make the contact with the FS if we can get agreement from the Board to spend some of the Conservation Fund money on this project. I would guess we would need about five loads of gravel to do a nice job and that could cost around $200 - $250 per load.

The ACC has a whole lot of time and money invested in these access points and they definitely need some maintenance to keep them looking and working like they should. We need to have a work weekend up there to pick up litter, trim trees, etc. Who is in?

Dave R

PS: If you hang to the left side of the puddle going in or right side coming out, the puddle is not too deep. My F150 pickup did fine. Grant's tahoe found the ruts. Ford Rules!

the far left route (going in) is worse now. there is now a hump down the middle that will keep you dry if you can find it.
i'll need to confirm Flapjack's make of truck before comenting on the Ford thing.

maybe we can compare conservation and recreation budgets and decide who pays for some gravel. :poke:

Yep my little ole ford never made it out but only liked a couple of foots. I think its been hogwallowered by RNs but in all seriousness need to put small rip rap rock in the hole to build a base.

I just went up there today (Sunday). I decided to go to the takeout and see if anyone was there. Unfortunatley, a local in an S10 was burried axle deep in the middle of the hole. I could not even pull him out with my 4x4 1/2 ton. His son showed up a few minutes later and pulled him out with a one ton dually. Looks like 4WD only until things dry up a bit.

The rest of the story:
So I got back to the put in to wait until some other paddlers arrive. I was standing beside the truck listening to the mud sizzle on hot engine parts, then looked down and realized it was a hole in my tire. I had to make that tough decision: stay and paddle and change a muddy flat in a muddy parking lot or haul @ss back to town. I chose the later.
