Hogan Creek Report (Conway Co.)

Post by zjfarris » Sat May 09, 2009 7:02 pm

We just ran Hogan Creek (Hwy 92 to 285, Cove Creek) today and it was outstanding. Several people have mentioned an interest in an update so I thought I would provide a quick one if you are considering it in the near future.
Cadron was at 8.5 when we put on. We only portaged in two locations. One was a tree down, looks like it has been there for some time and isn't going anywhere soon. The other was for a fence which has been erected over the creek. Evidently a local has put in a steel mesh fence to keep his cows in. Luckily the fence was not near any currents and was easy to get around. It was easy to spot and even at higher levels I don't forsee it causing too many serious issues.

Water levels were ideal. It got a little bony in a few spots near the top but everything was floatable. The description most have read on various sites is dead on. It was a nice, scenic float for the top 75% with descent skills needed. The last mile is unreal. I really can't believe more people are not singing its praises. Terrific class III sets, one after another. You may find yoruself wondering why you went to the trouble when you first put on but trust me it really pays off at the end.

I highly recommend the float. I think you could do it with a bit less in the Cadron but I can't imagine floating it with the Cadron at 4.5 like some of the sites consider as the Min Recommended Level. I think maybe 6 ft on the Cadron would be pushing it, but let us know if I am wrong on that.
Hope this helps.
