DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer for Arkansas

I need to replace mine. I noticed the one that I have & is out is 2nd edition dated Jan 2004. Anyone know how often these get updated? The http://www.delorme.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; website doesn't say.

Is there a better book/map of Arkansas back roads? For the "big picture" these maps seems more helpful than a handheld GPS when trying to find access points for rivers.

In my opinion there is not a better map product than Delorme's. I don't think they update very often but still better than any other atlas to put in your shuttle rig. Its right up there with all the other standard equipment; helmet, lifejacket, etc...

I also like the Gazetteer&Atlas, I have an older somewhat frazzled one stuck under the truck seat and a newer one at home. I've only found a few minor errors over time, like a highway crossing of the Caddo that has been washed out since the sixties but is shown as intact on the map, also some roads indicated by number but on the ground they have names. I still think it's the best guide out there.
Being a geography nut, I have always also liked my collection of Forest Service maps and especially the standard 1:24,000 USGS topographic maps for those times when I'm wanting to view the terrain relief.However the standard quad sheets are too unhandy and numerous to carry around. A better solution for these supplemental topo sheets is to go up in scale to the 1:250,000 sheets of which only six of them would cover the majority of the state.

my delorme as well as most other peoples NEEDS an update. not that it is a huge deal but with all of the new logging going on up east and west of adam's mountain, there are new roads that have been cut in that make life sooo much easier but are not marked yet.

Speaking of those logging roads, I've always so enjoyed 'taking the lesser traveled routes' on occasion, just to ramble around and see parts of the state I've not seen. It's really a drag when you discover the road(s) gated shut In the Gazetteer&Atlas, one thing I like is they show many geographical features denoted by a particular symbol. I'd love to travel to and explore many of these features, and to know more of their history sometimes, but it turns out to be a moot venture when you realize they are on private property and you can't get there... I know it's probably not feasible for DeLorme to indicate gates or 'private' roads on their maps but it is indeed frustrating that they show the roads on the map, but the information is of little value for the general public.

I just checked at Office Depot this afternoon & all of the new ones were dated 2004. So I guess that might be the latest.

Based on how they updated the Missouri map I would think Arkansas is due for an update within 1-2 years.
