Caddo anyone?

I'm good to go for a Caddo run. Level's good, isn't it? Want to get my kid in the rec boat for some fun, mild whitewater. Would like to start around noon, but can go earlier if needed.

I think the reason you aren't getting an answer is the water level. Caddo right now is at 6 1/2 feet and its thunder storming at this time. Levels could rise, quickly, perhaps some flash flooding, water will be up in the trees. This would take some excellent boat control I think. Do be careful if you go. The water will be very swift although the rapids will be washed out there could be debris.

I'm confuzzled. I thought a good level for the Caddo was about 7. Krueger has advised me on this, but I've apparently forgotten. I sure wish we could add the Caddo to that Recommended Levels list on the ACC site.
Thanks.
I'll settle for dodging thunderstorms at the NLR Farmers' Market and the skateboard park today. Surfpup and his compadres are having to work around the 3' of water in the bowl. It's achieved equilibrium with the Ark. River that it drains into. Anyone want to bet on how long it'll be before they skate the bottom of the bowl again?

Caddo should be a great level today from swinging bridge or narrows to US 70.

Hey Lee!
Be confused no more, the Caddo is at a great level this morning!
I'm sure friend Connie is like me in being concerned with the rains of the last two weeks.Currently the rain is gone for the morning it looks like.
Since the most floated sections on the Caddo are Norman to Caddo Gap, and Caddo Gap to Glenwood, here are my recommendations;
For inexperienced paddlers, a level of about 5.50 ft. to 6.30 ft.
For experienced paddlers, a level of 6.30 ft. to 7.50 ft.
I've paddled the Caddo at 8 ft. and at this level it's spreading into the willow jungles and really all the play spots are washing out.
Man, if I wasn't gun shy from all the rain lately, and today's forecast as viewed last evening, I would have planned a trip over there myself today.
Best Regards
Jim

Jim .... you need to get that knee well for Rec School!
Wish I could paddle, but this is flower planting season and my yard is looking neglected .... as of yesterday .. Good Earth's and Home Depots stock should have gone up ... I love buying the flowers ... now I have to plant them. I know the ground is a little too wet, but if you wait, they won't be available ...
Lee, hope you and your son signed up for Rec School!
And, hope to catch ya'll on the Caddo soon!
Susan

The play spots maybe washed out, but at 8+ or 9 feet it has some pretty big standing waves. Jim, I am on call this weekend but if the weather looks nice tomorrow afternoon say 12:30 or 1:00 I would be up for a narrows to glenwood float as long as it was not above say 12 feet.

As a second note if no more rain comes and it holds at current level 182 to 84 would be a quick nice float, just to get out on the water. The double ledge should be a good play spot if it's not washed out.

Speaking of the 182-84 float, I'd love to see some improvement in the take-out, it's just the pits currently. I've been taking out under the Amity side of the 84 bridge for some time but last time I went, I used the other side, old low-water bridge approach and I think it may offer some good potential. I thought about seeing if the Clark County Judge could help us some there but haven't taken the time to visit with him yet. The road down to that site is well maintained as a county road right down to a residence located about 300 yards from the take-out. If it would be possible for the county to grade that last little bit, it could be a really good landing.
Best Regards

Not sure old 84 is the best place. At low levels the river barely flows by there anymore. The floods have really helped the Amity side of river takeout. It has removed a lot of the little trees. I think moving a couple of the trees hung up in the eddy and rearranging a few rocks to make steps would go along way. You interested in going tomorrow? We could look at it together and discuss.

Adam,
You're right about the lower flow on the access across the river. I will will probably continue to use the 84 bridge access but would like for both of them to be a little more handy. I like the 84 access because the road dept. put a little asphalt on the hill going in there and I can easily get my truck down there, and I like it because it's handy to my friend Dennis Evans house just up the road for those times when I put in at the bridge but leave my truck or motorcycle up in his yard. The things I would like to work on at the bridge are the little trees growing up in the rip-rap. Each time I go there I swear I'll bring my brush trimmer w/blade on it.
I have also very much thought of rearranging a few pieces of that rip-rap to fashion some stairs, in fact, I have several bags of concrete mix at home and have thought I'd dob some of it to hold the stair treads in place once formed.
I appreciate your willingness to help with this project. I don't know if tomorrow will work for Marlo and I but will visit with her as well as watch the weather. If not tomorrow, then soon, it does need doing and I never have the time or inclination when I'm up there to float.
Best Regards
Jim
