Hi Y'all.
Just recently joined the ACC. Bought kayaks (SOT's) from Jeremy at O.O.O. for myself, the wife and daughter last year. Like most people we rented for several years prior to buying our own boats. We are located in El Dorado and are hoping to get in touch with other paddlers to plan or tag along on some float trips.

Re: Hi Y'all.
howdy, A rod. You been reading here much? Trips up to the Buffy...aka Buffalo.. are often planned here. With summer coming many more will be on. Full moon this weekend but looks like mother's day and rain are kinda resisting.
If you see a trip here posters are pretty much sending out the invite. Start your own if you want asking for some folks to show the way. With SOTs you will need to be in warmer weather or lots of cold gear. You looking for camp trips too or just floating? Buffy is a looong way from Eldorado. Caddo would be a closer choice.
Welcome

Yes A-Rod, welcome! We actually have a couple other paddlers who are from ElDorado too, and a passel more in the immediate area of South Arkansas and North Louisiana. Check out the newest chapter in the club, The Arklatex Chapter, also The Bayou Chapter of the Ozark Society, all like-minded folks in your area.
Like Clif mentioned, the Buffalo is one of our favorites, if you've not paddled it yet, do put it on the list. The Caddo River in S.W. Ark. is my long standing favorite for an easy class I-II stream nearer home and is only a couple of hours from where you live. If you see us post a trip there, and should be interested, please visit and we'll look for you all.
Best Regards
Jim

Re: Hi Y'all.
We've done a trip to the Buffalo every year for the past 6 years as quick as can after school lets out. Usually camp at one place and do day floats and maybe change locations and do more day floats. Looking to get in on some overnight floats, our yaks can carry a good bit of gear. We've done the Caddo back when were renting canoes. We floated the Caddo below DeGray late last summer in our yaks. Both flaots were ok but just don't have the scenery of No. AR. We've done the Cadron in canoes, that's a fun place.
Wife and I did different sections of the upper Ouachita last June and this past March in our yaks. We are slowly but steadily acquiring the appropriate clothing to float earlier in the year. Tried something some friends form WY suggested this spring.... Frog Togs over synthetics. worked pretty good at keeping spray and splash off until.... I ripped the seat of mine out on my paddle keeper hook
(it has since been relocated). Had to sit in cold water for a little while after a wave came over the side. We're hoping to make it to Rec. School this year. If the X will let me get my daughter a day early. Maybe we'll get to meet some of y'all there.

Your seat or the hook?
If you wanna step up from the Buffy, Piney @ Long Pool and Illinois Bayou are great areas. Lots of big hills. Better if you tag with someone familiar with them tho.

That's one of the main reasons we joined the ACC. So that we could connect with people that are familiar with places we aren't.Clif wrote:"I ripped the seat of mine out on my paddle keeper hook (it has since been relocated)"

Clif, I can see right now that you and I will get along just fine
