No need to offer condolences, I'm getting used to not winning!

What does make it easier to be first runner up is knowing that the winner is as excited to win as David is! Several times that has been the case and it sure is a good feeling to know the winner appreciates the prize!

I was like the David poster on the on the other thread and for one brief moment had a little bit of excitement when Amos said, "And the winner is,........David......" flashes of me in new creek boat "....Lewis!!!" momentary personal let down and then a nice warm feeling for another boater getting a new boat and the Instructor Ed Fund getting some more cash! Everybody wins!

Enjoy your new Jackson creek boat!

David,

I hope you enjoy the new Hero. I was hoping to add it to my quiver of boats, but alas, skunked again this year.

Be sure to take the shuttle fee with you when you get the boat from Marcell. I believe it totals to (6) Newcastle Brown Ales.

Yeah, this should round out my fleet with style, if not grace. My first mistake boat, about a year ago, was a 14-foot Perception Carolina, which is hanging from my garage ceiling waiting for me to lose my newfound affinity for whitewater. My second boat was a 10-foot Dagger Approach, which I love. But my ACC paddling companions have been insisting I need to move on to a real WW boat. Meanwhile, a few weeks ago I bought an Old Town Kennebeck 16-foot canoe for a price that might as well have been a raffle win. Got that for overnight trips. NOW that I've got this fine Jackson WW boat (or will have after I pick it up tonight), I'm set for whatever comes along!! This opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Just need to learn how to drive it, of course. Will be at the pool for roll sessions soon. Thanks again, everybody!

Thanks for that, Bob. I wasn't aware. I should be on a river on Sunday afternoons anyway, eh?

Thanks, Michele. I never saw your boat, so I didn't know what you were paddling. Glad to hear you love your Hero. Can't wait to try mine out.

Thanks a bunch for the fine classroom instruction at the lake. That was a whole lot better than nothing, but I was so disappointed we didn't get to learn some moves from you on moving water -- or flat water, for that matter. Maybe next time. I'll watch for you on the board and surely we'll meet up on a river somewhere.

I have to add one more comment, a big thank you to Pack Rat in Fayetteville, which provided the Jackson Hero for the raffle. Unfortunately, it's the Jackson Super Hero that fits my body. So, after speaking with Kevin at Pack Rat, I drove up there today to swap the Hero for a Super Hero they had in stock. While the Hero had never been in the water, it had gotten scuffed up a little in transit, and a store manager wanted a ruling from Kevin on whether they could do an even swap. I offered some cash to make up the difference, if any. But Kevin said no problem, they'll just deal with it. So, thank you to all the good folks at Pack Rat and, again, to the ACC.

I nearly had my new boat in the water for the first time tonight, but arrived at the UALR pool at 6:55 only to learn that the new summertime closing time is 7:00. Apparently all the paddlers were surprised by this news, so be advised if you're headed that way yourself.
