Hailstone - Tree Across River
Posted: Sat May 02, 2009 8:00 pm
As of about noon today (Saturday) there was (and most likely still is) a tree down across the entire river at the entrance to Doom Room. Visability-wise it's easy to see. Portage-wise it couldn't be in a worse spot. We had to lug 3 rafts around the entire rapid on river right.
IF the water was lower (it was about 6'/1600 cfs on the Boxley gauge when we put on, and came up to about 8'/4100 cfs  during our run) you MIGHT be able to sneak under. Far river left looked like the best option. BUT: Doom Room is not a place to take chances.
There was other wood in bad/tight spots elsewhere, including at least one tree across the far right channel after a blind corner in a willow jungle about halfway down.
Be careful if you hit Hailstone tomorrow.
