Yea, the Google Earth / Fish Water thing is really cool.

A question about loading the radar into Google Earth:

When on the page where you get the radar overlay http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge/kmzgenerator.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , I choose "Single image statewide composite" for Arkansas, then choose "Storm Total Precipitation". In Google this loads the Little Rock and Fort Smith rainfall totals, with the radar total from Fort Smith overlaying the total from Little Rock. The images aren't blended into a real "composite", it's just one radar overlaying the other, you only see the Little Rock radar totals where the Fort Smith radar doesn't reach.

You can switch back and forth between the two images by looking on the left side of Google Earth under the places category (see figure 1 with red arrow), then tempory places and alternating checkmarks between LZK SRX, Little Rock being LZK and SRX being Fort Smith. There is a big difference when looking at each radars rain totals.

The Fort Smith radar is overlayed over the Little Rock radar, is this coincidence or is the Fort Smith radar more accurate than Little Rock? So far, I've made some spot on predictions using the composite, which is basically the Fort Smith image.

Has anyone figured out which radar is the best? Any observations?

the tot gauge is heading north, and although it's been raining all afternoon, it hasn't been too heavy at Shady yet. Looks like a lot more coming this way, so should be good for somebody tomorrow...........maybe i'll be sick.....

Here are the two images for reference. Both are from the Cossatot area, one is the Fort Smith radar estimate, the other the Little Rock radar. Huge difference between the two. And it's not just the difference of time between the updates on the two radars because I looked at the Mulberry area around 11:00 pm, after a couple hour period of no rain, and there was a big difference then between the two radars.

I toggle individual radars on/off and give more credence to the one whose center is closer to the creeks I'm looking at, assuming that any given radar is more accurate closer to its center, and less accurate out on the edges.

Yea, you would think the closer one would be the most accurate.

The only problem is the the two radars intersect right in the middle of the Ozark Creeking Area, so which radar is telling the truth?

Anyone getting on Sugar or Jack first thing in the morning?

i'm not sure of what's to come, but so far it has not rained anywhere near 4 inches in my area. Downtown Mena got heavier rain this afternoon, than out on the upper Tot. From what i've seen in the past radar rainfall estimates are not usually very accurate. Right now it's light steady rain, and the river is getting louder.
