I figured Bradt would fire off something big after Gamache barely broke his record, but was wondering how long it would be after Pedro (supposedly) broke Gamache's. If this is true and he did stick it, then it may be more then a few weeks/months before this one is broken.

Gotta believe if Tribe is putting it on their site then he stuck it. These dudes are nuts, and I think we are getting to a level where people are going to start losing their life trying to top the record.

EDIT: Charlie Center just said on BT that he "stomped it."

Of course we are. We've been there for a while, but there haven't been enough attempts yet....

Man, in every sport or pursuit, there are people who seek fame and even fortune by testing the outer limits of human endurance, luck, and sanity. They are called daredevils. Only a very, very few are wired to do this, which is a good thing. But several of the rest of us are separated from these folks only by degree. We're daredevils to those who are less skilled than us and we sometimes seek our own small fame or fortune too. Calling them crazy is calling a part of ourselves crazy. I'm happy to watch the daredevils to whom I apply my own version of "crazy" to, and my helmet's off to them when they succeed and don't end up eating from a tube.

To me, the best perspective on the daredevil trend in our sport is that of the late, great William Nealy. See his classic 'toons on parayaking and glacier yaking for some examples. :) And the movie "The Big Blue" looks at daredevil mentality and competition as closely and realistically as I've ever seen. It's about "free" divers, not kayakers, but well worth watching.

And I can't wait to see the footage either. Nearly 200 feet is world class crazy!

Fish your insight is insightful. I agree though, I wasn't saying that those on the cutting edge of boating haven't been in the danger zone for a while, but I was talking more in regards to the big drop trend. 5 record changes in a almost a year? Don't think we are going to see that after this one, and if we do then hopefully everyone involved ends up alright.

Tyler is nuts ,but I must say I dont think you'll see anyone dumb enough to think they are as skilled at the big ones as he is.And I dont see anyone skilled/w/nuts enough to break this one anytime soon.Certainly seems he has a knack for these beasts! :D Now lets just hope Pedro isn't fired up to one up him cause @ 186 w/ no style pedro'll be dead fo sho!Seriously though did anyone else see pedro's posts about the great record breaking designs (I guess jk prevents auto ejection) and the post down playing the size of the 186 er just dropped. Said he thought it should be remeasured! He claimed it was 40m w/ 5m of rollin lip. 186 is actually more like 60 m so I guess pedro isnt a math wiz!And as for as rolling lips, maybe he should try it sometime, i hear its much better than floppin off a right angle ledge and might even help to not go over the bars! :poke: what a tool, he's just pissed his 15 minutes of fame are up! :lol:What no today show or nomad plugs yet?I thought that was waterfall record protocol after pedro's shameless 15 minutes.Props for stickin it Tyler!!

"No question Tyler has worked up to this. His last tour through the Columbia River Gorge, just a couple weeks ago, was impressive to say the least. Upper Bridal Veil Falls, Sahalie, Money Drop, Metlako - twice. Legit for someone such as Tyler who has that vision! Well done!" If your working toward something of that level there's no lunacy  "Now lets just hope Pedro isn't fired up to one up him cause @ 186 w/ no style pedro'll be dead fo sho!" "What no today show or nomad plugs yet?" I don't think Confluence will stoop to the level of Jackson :hammer:

It's in the comments on this thread. First tease of the day it appears.

The January / February print edition of American Whitewater Journal has a complete series of articles from invited guest authors. In response to the article Doug Ammons wrote about Tyler Bradt. The authors in that edition are all living legends and they discuss this issue and more.

Serious read for those with the time.

I've enjoyed this debate at arms length but I think to be honest with ourselves and anyone outside our circles one doesn't "stick" a fall that high. Granted there is skill necessary to get to the lip and to get a proper launch. But at that height that are many other variables for which skill cannot overcome.
I submit any landing at that height which allows the paddler to live without injury or death is 90% luck and 10% skill.

I hope we don't have to read a single death report from Charlie Walbridge about someone trying to out do someone else because of this. That level of risk is not worth the fame being sought.

I just finished listening to the Rush Sturges interview. To further emphasize my point and he openly admits that no one on the team there expected Tyler to come out of this uninjured.

I hope the fame gained can be used for good. It'll certainly sell a lot of copies of their video.

I'm guessing he is a couple of inches shorter than he was before he ran the waterfall.
