Caddo Saturday?

Post by lalyle » Thu Apr 16, 2009 9:09 pm

I'm trying to help a very disappointed minister get on an easy river Saturday after all of her youth group backed out of a planned camping/paddling trip to Ponca.

Level looks like it'll hold at minimum 2.5 - 3, but I'd just as soon make a shorter trip over to Glenwood for what's now become a daytrip with a fair chance of rain.

Can anyone give me an estimate on water conditions? BTW, what's the recommended level for the USGS gauge?

If anyone else wants to paddle Sat, holler.

Lee,

The weather the last three weekends has been just great, I guess it's time for a rainy one Sat. Who knows how Sat. evening will play out but it looks like the Caddo& S.W. Ark. may get a slug of rain Friday night which could put the Caddo up high. Currently the level is at 6.18 ft. which would be OK for the Narrows to Glenwood, I really like 7-7.5ft.. or so, but with experienced compadres along, otherwise my recommendation is 5.60- 6.50ft. I would gladly join you but we too have an outing otherwise planned on Sat., which may also be affected by the weather...

Best Regards
Jim

Thanks. Yeah, things are iffy at best. A real wait and watch scenario. They're backpeddling anyway, more inclined now to do something closer and shorter i.e. the Cadron. It's holding, but I don't see anyone going.

I'll remember now that 6 on the Caddo is OK for novices and 7 is fun.
