Weaver Creek: another one bites the dust

Post by KimL » Wed Apr 15, 2009 2:44 pm

More bad news for Arkansas creeks. After North Cadron was run through instead of bored under, I hoped that gas companies had learned the law. A gas company in Van Buren apparently decided it did not need to bore under Weaver Creek and instead blasted away the bedrock creek bed to put in a gathering line. There is no way to "fix" the bedrock. According to my sources, ADEQ refused to do anything, but Game and Fish called in the Army Corps. Investigators from Washington may be visiting Arkansas. If anyone knows otherwise, I'd appreciate hearing what happened from other people's point of view.

Thanks, Erica, I replied. I certainly hope that ADEQ follows through in this case.

Thanks, moderators.

I'd like to follow up with news about a toxic spill Wednesday night or yesterday morning near Damascus. I'm afraid it may be close to the Cadron Creek watershed but do not have details yet. When I get them, I'll post, in case any folks are headed that way this weekend.
