Two thoughts:

1) I don't think Wade's even on here anymore to defend himself. That's just wrong.

2) Man, I think Sammy looks even more completely insane on video.

Don't try that in an open boat at home folks...

I would run that in a heartbeat. At first, looking at it in the beginning, I thought oh no way. But you guys didn't get going NEAR as fast down that thing as I had expected.

I smell a Ark-LA-Tex chapter conquering of this spillway in the near future

This thing is very level dependent. At the level we had Monday, it looked pretty interesting, with several rooster tails shooting up. But it boated smoothly. First time I saw it was after the W. Fk. Horsehead first D lo those many years ago, and it was MUCH badder that day. At high levels, a VERY large hole forms at the bottom and you move even faster down the big slide. I think the approach looked easier at higher water though - we had to bump and turn to get to the lip of the thing (e.g. Spanke in the video).

Looks like it's the level we had it the day AFTER a flooding rain. The day of the rain, it might be too much H2O for most people's comfort zone.

And be sure you check out Paris Spillway too while you're there - only about 30 minutes away and well worth the trip - photos don't do it justice at all.

I agree w/ fish that slide is a barely lubricated slab at that level. When its up where you dont touch anything but h20 its really fast. Second fastest drop Ive run, just a tad slower than autobahn(I am sure I hit 30 +mph on that thing) on SS in cali. Most def. tuck their tail in intimidation w/ good flows.Still super fun regardless of level and like most things much better and bigger w/ more water. Also way larger in person than in footy!Ive got an idea lets get a radar gun and a good flow and see how fast horsehead really is! :D

One thing is for sure - at pretty much any level, you do not want to get your head under your butt on that slide. You're going all the way to the bottom one way or the other, whether you're leaving little pieces of yourself along the way or not. :)

I'd bet it'll generate speeds in excess of 20 mph pretty easily. If that doesn't sound too fast to you, tie yourself to a car bumper with all your paddling gear on and have someone drag you over wet pavement at 20 mph for about 100 feet. It's gonna smart a little.

I'm glad some of you guys finally ran the paris spillway. I have been thinking about it since I got into boating I only live less than five minutes from there. I have been trying to get my friends from russellville to come down and look at it but they never did. The reason I haven't run it is because I'm not sure( positive after watching the video) that my skills are were where they need to be but at some point in my paddling career I've got to run it. Thanks for the cool video guys.

Yeah Ive got some footy from suckerbill that shows peanut 's elbow after he ate it on the slide, and I think it was a moderate level, proof positive of the hamburger meat grinding factor! It was nasty gross dude!

By the way, one of the main hazards at horsehead is the sea of poison ivy on the bank. I was trying to be careful, but still have it on my hands. That evil weed will mess you up!

I like Kyle's face when he's looking at Peanut's arm in that video of suckerbills.

The level we had Monday on Paris Spillway was a lot lower than it was on my first run. At higher flows it gets really interesting.
