Hot Springs creek night run

Post by jackatspa » Thu Apr 02, 2009 10:30 pm

No words can explain it better than "Watch out for that Beaver!" Thanks alot joe for showing me down. I needed someone to tell me "we can paddle in the dark". Head lamps burning bright we put on at 9:00pm and took off around 9:45. The funniest thing was hearing joe scream when a beaver came crashing down about 3 feet from him. What a night, Beavers, Boats, And now a beer.

What a great night run! I am of course, shredded this morning...but it was worth it. Hot springs creek was at the best level I've gotten to paddle it at yet. No portages at all on the run, which was nice. The Beaver ( or Platypus, the jury is still out on that one I contend) attack notwithstanding, it was just a fun, dark, bouncing, boofing playfest. A few cartwheels and spins, some King of the hole, and all smiles at the take out...which we overshot by about 15 yds or so.
After a short hike through a swamp, we managed to find the trail back to the take out. Great trip, and great company down. I hate that noone else could make it. You really missed out. :D Thanks again Jack for the comradery.
-sigh- And let the Beaver jokes begin. :poke:

LOL, funny you mention that...the paddling shirt I had on was from a day or so before when I took a run down the Saline River in Benton at flood...in my Prijon sea kayak. Talk about some fun paddling. I made about 2.5 miles in 35 minutes! Plus caught a few eddies that barely fit the boat. It was a nice personal first voyage in that boat for me. :D
Anyway..the shirt smelled like death..burnt death. Death stored in a rotting meat factory.
So yea..I was way ripe. But I made it to bed first..so she had no choice other than the couch. =) Besides, neither of us can smell with our sinuses messed up. It all works out. lol
