OK, so here's the deal. Wakarusa is out on the Mulberry R. this year and they are looking for a few nonprofit/charitable organizations to volunteer to run "beer tents" for the event. Colby Salazar came and presented this idea at our last NW Chapter meeting. We need to get between 15 to 30 people committed to do this on the Festival dates: June 4-7 (four days). They provide all the equipment and such, we just provide volunteers. ALL VOLUNTEERS GET FREE ADMISSION TO THE WAKARUSA MUSIC FESTIVAL. Also volunteers get to drink beer for free according to Colby. And we set up a "tip jar" and Colby says organizations typically raise between $2000 and $4000 for the entire weekend (they expect 10,000 or more to attend). This seems like the ultimate no-brainer.

So here's the deal. Post a note on this thread if you want to volunteer for the event and you are SURE you can commit to be there June 4-7. If you will be bringing more volunteers with you, please indicate how many total volunteers you are bringing. I didn't ask, but I bet all volunteers must be 21 or older to work a beer tent in Arkansas (I will ask if anyone younger is interested). Also, PM me on this message board with your name, age, email, and cell phone number so I can make a roster for this thing. Damn sweet deal. I'll change plans in a second if I can do this for four days. I'll bring my own beer. That Keg stuff maketh me hed hurt. I'd be happy to pour a lot for the others, with a BIG smile on my face.

Man, sounds like a good deal. I also already have a ticket but could probably sell it. My only question is how much time will we have to commit to volunteering? Not trying to be selfish, I just want to make sure I get to see some of the shows and flirt with the hippie chicks.

That's what I was wondering as well -- if it be 8-10 hours a day on my feet -- then I'll keep my ticket and lay back and enjoy the show. But a couple of 2-3 hour shifts per day well that be something different.

I assume it will be like previous events -- no beer allowed except that provided by the concessionaires while within the staging area albeit personal beverages allowed within the camping sites -- yes?

already going also and will do a shift or two. anything for the ACC . Can probably persuade a few others too. The key is having enough folks to spread out the work.

dont know if you know the details but do we need to staff a tent full time for all 4 days? They generally sell beer for at least 12 hrs /day

The more volunteers we get, the more time each of us has to spend not working. I think we've got to have about 5 folks at the tent at a time. If we get 20 people, that means you should have about 3/4 of your time free to see bands, chase hippies, etc. Capice? We'll make sure the work gets divvied up equitably so we all have plenty of playtime. Slackers and deserters will be haunted forever by extremely bad river karma! :twisted:

I think he said we'd be selling each day from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM. I'd like to limit each person's shift to no more than 4 hrs at a time. If we have 20 folks, we should be able to do 3 hr shifts. If there are particular acts you want to see at certain times, we'll have to work to accommodate that, but I don't think it'll be a problem. May just make out a sign up sheet and let folks sign up for shifts on a first come first served basis. I'm keeping a list in the order that people commit to come, so that can be the signup list order too maybe. We'll do it as fair as we can. I'm super flexible and can fill in if someone has a show they gotta catch.

Oh, and Cadron Boy, I need your full name, phone, email and for Schuyler too (all over 21 I assume? :) )

I can work a shift during the weekend. My hippie chick and mahsef will be there groovin and happy to help out. Already have a ticket and will keep it as it is "upgraded" to No Class.
