Kayak shipping?
Kayak shipping?
I'm looking at getting a boat shipped from a guy on Boatertalk. He said he would look into shipping. I want to know what is a good company to use? I was told there is a shipping terminal in fortsmith that some folks pick there boats up from. If anyone has any more details that would be great!
Thanks for the info

I recently used Forward Air and it cost about $80. You can also add insurance for $1 per $100 of coverage. Just make sure they do a good job packing it, so it will be accepted.

Here's a map with the locations:

Also, check Greyhound. I know a guy in TX that's had good luck with them, and their rates are the lowest he's found. Save $ by using a method that ships to a terminal for you to pick up vs delivery to your door.

If you shipping plastic no problem but if you are shipping glass be sure they fill it with something paper or something for support. Forward air has always be good to me. But I shipped a glass boat without filling the hull and it was cracked on delv. also write on it to "top load" meaning nothing to be on top of it.

re: forwardair....make sure it's a short boat as rates I got on a 10.5' boat was over $200. They use a formula that factors length, width and height.....so the length really added a lot of $. Also had a boat delivered by forwardair that had forklift damage. Therefore, I will be driving to pick up my new boat in NC.

Re: Kayak shipping?
I checked with Grayhound bout six months ago, and they said no way. When asked when they stopped shipping kayaks the rep. claimed that kayaks weren't shipped through them. So maybe wrap it up and tell them its something else. Collecting for a damaged boat might prove unsuccessful however.

I was gonna tell you, if you pay just my gas to get out and back I'll go for a boating trip out East and pick 'er up for you and drop 'er off on your doorstep :) I'll even rope Fishie into it so that we can use his Turbo Diesel (gas-mileage extraordinaire) to make it as cheap as possible!

I'd give the Upper Green a shot! I'd even be willing to come home via Chattooga Section III.Cathy wrote:If you're going out to NC, might as well do the Green
