Do I need to trim this gasket?

Post by RomanLA » Fri Mar 27, 2009 2:59 pm

My dry suit got here today and there was a small notch in the neck gasket. It looks a lot worse when it's stretched out though. Do I need to trim this and if so what's the best way to do it?

p.s. It's in-between the rings, so I may just be able to take a razor blade and straighten it out, without cutting off the whole ring.

Yes it does. Single edge razor blade or some very sharp sizzers. cut right at the top of the next ridge down. If done with care, it will be good to go.

What is the fit like. It isn't seven plus foot tall is it? Looked like it had latex booties too. Good stuff.

It's a little long in the legs, but not bad at all. The gaskets were in outstanding shape (no signs of drying out) and it looks almost like new. It has Gore-Tex socks and they're also in great shape.

I have always trimmed mine with very sharp scissor's. Have you tried to stretch it yet? When it fits correct your eyes should do this >  It will take more than two hands to do the job, lay it flat and pull both ends of the gasket so that it becomes straight and then just follow a set of lines, if yours have them. The trick to a good clean cut is something sharp and holding it tight. Im sure there are other ways of cutting them, this is just what works for me. Dont cut to much, if so drink more  to fix the loose jasket problem.

I put it inside out on that pot and cut it with a razor blade. It's not perfect, but I think it'll be ok. If it survives the night stretching out, it should be alright on my neck. :P
