Very nicely-written article about Lars Holbek. If you've been boating a while, you know the name. If you're newer to the sport, you need to learn about him. The word "legend" is often mis-used, but not here. In my mind, he had almost mythical status and has made a huge impact on whitewater paddling. Sure wish I'd had a chance to meet him in person. If you can find a copy of his guidebook, it's definitely worth a read. Very much an inspiration to live life full-on!

yep, can't believe Lars is gone... after all Joe's reading about his adventures we thought he was immortal for sure. We thought it was really cool that Richard Montgomery compared Lar's death to the way he ran rapids, ever so graceful even in the worst of situations

Amy, good points. I think if I'd met him, I might have poked him to make sure he was merely human. Glad you pointed out Montgomery's thoughts, too - deep sentiments, indeed. Found in this thread for those who care to read.
