CADRON PICKUP & PADDLE SATURDAY 3/28/09; FREE STUFF FREE!!
FREE 12' tie down strap or FREE regular carabiner or FREE double gate stainless steel carabiner will be awarded to each person who helps collect the roadside trash on SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 2009. Your choice of freebie. RAIN or SHINE !!!
We will pick up the trash along our adopted one mile of Highway 65 and then paddle the creek. Normally we paddle the 5 miles from Cadron Creek Outfitters to Highway 65, which is Class II and full of play spots. All you need to bring is a pair of gloves for touching the trash, your boat, and your lunch. Trash bags will be furnished and the Highway Department will collect the trash bags when we are through. Our fastest collection time so far has been twenty minutes, but count on a little less than an hour.
Meet at 10:00 A.M. in the parking lot under the north end of the Highway 65 bridge over Cadron Creek. The bridge is located about two miles north of Greenbrier on Highway 65. The road down to the parking lot is Ozark Drive and is located about three quarters of a mile north of the bridge; it is the same road you would take to get to the Ozark Trade Center, on the east side of the highway. There are brown Cadron Creek Access signs on the highway shortly before Ozark Drive on both sides of the highway. Take Ozark Drive all the way down to the end to get to the parking lot. Here’s a link to a Mapquest map with a star at the point where Ozark Drive is located (about 1400 Highway 65 N):

Hope to see you there and paddle with you on the creek.

Think I will plan on this one.. and noticed the other day, it needs it. Some big debris on the south side of bridge from an accident. Mostly lots of your quick disposal, quick food collections.
You sure this is on the right channel?

Will be there. Always in on a Cadron clean up.
One of these days we will be able to run the Cadron without seeing a tire.

Re: CADRON PICKUP & PADDLE SATURDAY 3/28/09; FREE STUFF FREE!!
Hi--I live in Memphis and am dying to get in the water this weekend. I'd like to try the Cadron. Would it be ok if I joined the pick up and paddle?
(I've done the Natahala and Locust Fork, among others--I'm a relatively new paddler, but pretty solid on class II/III and I have a decent roll).
Thanks!
Chris

ChrisD, you won't have any problems with the Cadron. Come on over and join the fun.

Come one, come all. The litter collection will take place! If the Cadron is too high for safety, we may paddle nearby Cove Creek as an alternative. Or we may go way upstream on the Cadron where boats are rarely seen; goats, yes, boats no. Finding a place to paddle won't be a problem. Adventure ahead!

With a forecast of windy, overcast, and a high of 50, anyone who does not have the proper clothing and/or the skill to stay upright will have a miserable day. They would especially need good flotation in the canoe, which I'm guessing you may not have. I would recommend waiting until another day for brand new, inexperienced paddlers. The upper Cadron is pretty mild as far as rapids go, but there are always places that will trip up first time paddlers. Also, we may not paddle there, opting for something a little more challenging, like Cove Creek. They would be quite welcome to help with the litter collection!!!

Here's a handful of photos of a few of the intrepid trash picker-uppers just before the paddle action portion of the outing...

A big thanks goes out to everyone who helped collect the trash. We'll do it again when the water is running in the fall.
