Bayou Meto Canoe Trail Clean-Up (April 25)

Post by MStanley » Tue Mar 17, 2009 12:02 pm

Here is some information on the clean-up of the Bayou Meto Canoe Trail in Jacksonville, AR. Contact Julie at the email below if you can give them some help. Thanks for supporting a great cause.

jkburatowski@yahoo.com

The clean-up date for the Canoe Trail is April 25, 2009 at 10:00am (Saturday). We will be removing trash and obstructions. We need everyone's help and please let me know if you plan to bring your waders, canoes, chainsaws or muscle! ! If it happens to thunderstorm that day, I figure we could all try to meet the next weekend?

Other updates:

• The city of Jacksonville has trapped the beavers on that main beaver dam. Those pesky beavers...
• My 3 main students on this project also presented to the Jacksonville A&P Commission Monday night. They asked and received funding for 2 gravel ramps (one in Dupree Park and one in Reed's Bridge) and funding for 3 canoes, paddles, and life jackets for our project! Thank you Thank you Jacksonville A&P!
Looking forward to the clean up!

Sorry to hear about the beavers. To me, they are just one of the many different kinds of wildlife that I enjoy seeing when I go on swamp paddles. Hopefully there are some left and we can get folks to rethink that part of the plan.

Will try to join the clean-up...

Just got an update from the event organizer:

We are still on! We are meeting at the new ramp a few blocks from Reed's Bridge in Jacksonville. You can take the first Jacksonville exit and turn right onto Redmond Road. Follow it until you reach 161. Turn right on to 161 and a few blocks after your pass Reed's Bridge Civil War Memorial is a street named lakeshore drive on your RIGHT. Take that street then turn right on to Western Ave. The ramp is at the end of the street.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help! Look forward to meeting you!
