Elk River Warning(Gracie to Hog Heaven)

Just an FYI to anyone hitting this area. There are two large trees down between Gracies(Pineville) and Hog Heaven. The trees are about 300yds updtream from the hog Heaven sign. I have mentioned ti to Russ(owner of Hog Heaven) and Tom(owner of Big Elk). We did a cleanup from Hog Heaven to Riverside a few weeks ago and had planned a trip last weekend. I put in at Big Elk in the morning and found the trees. I lifted my pontoon over the top, but a canoe would be a bit more difficult. one would most likely have to drag it around the trees.

Trees are still there, but oddly the folks at Big Elk denied it when we asked at the put in whether there was any place needing a portage. Not a big deal (we're talking less than 20 yards portage over a flat gravel bar right now) but I was surprised at the misinformation.

When the busy season comes and rafts get out there, that spot will be a problem I'd think, unless someone takes care of it.

Thats kinda odd they would not acknowledge it. Anyway, Russ from HogHeaven has cleared the trees. So no worries on this one now.
