Anybody living in Conway might want to drive down Prince Street just east of Morningside & notice the hollow trees that have been cut down by the parks department for the new "park"

I guess we wouldn't want too many trees in a park

well....duh...they block the view

And me in Conway right now with no way to haul them back...

My truck is in the shop in Little Rock, I don't have a way to claim them either. Who's got a truck???

I'm in Charlotte NC. I'm not sure you can get to Conway from here! Somebody need to harvest those logs.

Parks, roads, etc.....just look to Conway for REALLY poor city planning. I've been here my whole life, some things never change.

Prolly illegal to take 'em. You know how logical these things work.

Ain't that be the truth. In fact if there is any "planning" whatsoever it certainly has escaped my attention. Sad that I can drive from my home is west Little Rock to downtown faster than I can exit the freeway and get to the hospital in Conway -- and if the school buses are in transit ... well I hope one isn't in any hurry.

I picked up a good 6 footer sunday out on 303 near hobbs conservation area.
i have a friend in the benton county environmental management agency that keeps me alerted for blow logs. Also tells me if any show up in the brush piles for the ice storm cleanup. I'll post any findings here or in another topic. For those in benton county, there is supposed to be a huge one on canyon valley drive, which if off highway 12 outside rogers. If you know where Finnegan's Country Mart is, its the road next to it. I drove down said road, and didnt find it, but anyone else is welcome to look for it. I'll keep ya'll posted.

I've heard (of course, having no personal experience with such things) that they usually let you off with a verbal warning to cease and desist. Hopefully, it will never become so common that someone feels the need to pass a specific law against it, although they have been banned at some venues (Turner Bend, Canoe School, Rendezvous...) due to very legitimate liability concerns.

I've heard that you really need to do several things to reduce the risk of injuries; cotton clothing, leather shoes, leather gloves, safety glasses, certain tricks as to how the log is loaded, and a "fire master" who makes sure everyone gets the word "fire in the hole" and gets way the heck back. Children and pets are of course in special danger as they may not heed that last one. Most chairs within 75 to 100 feet will have what looks like cigarette burn holes the next morning. Pieces of metal sometimes fall from the sky. Logs sometimes come apart like a plugged gun barrel exploding, sending burning wood shards in a horizontal direction at high speed. Distance is your friend.

I've heard that experienced blow-loggers sometimes confer themselves with the title "professional", as in, "We are professionals - don't try this at home."

OK! I'll admit it. I am out of step. But I don't get it!
Why would someone want to fill a log with all sorts of pollutants that will blow the thing to smithereens?

By filling it with explosives, you deprive yourself the intimacy of being up close.
