The Aklatex chapter of ACC was called to order at 6pm on March 4 by Harlan Hughes.
Old business was discussed
1) The Arklatex chapter received approval from the state board.
2) It was voted to keep the current officers and
table the election of officers for six months while we are in the organizing stage.
New Business
1) Harlan presented members in attendance their options for filling out their order forms for ACC membership.
2)Joe Purdy is checking the ACC database for area members who may want to change their old chapter affiliations to the new Arklatex chapter.
3) The frequency of meetings was discussed...it was decided we would meet the first Wednesday of the month.
4) Upcoming canoe school was talked about....they need volunteers for teachers and folks to paddle sweeps.
5)Paddle for the Planet was discussed also and everyone is encouraged to participate.
6) Adam Willard talked about having a swiftwater rescue clinic.
7) Joe suggested we have a paddle on the Red River/ Clean up day.

Jerry has info on San Marco clean up at the park and play park.
9) Adam discussed organizing an event on the Red River (downtown) with a $500 to $1000 purse (donated by local businesses.)
10) Harlan suggested a paddle trip to the Ocoee this summer.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully,
Diona Cost

Uh oh, chapter meeting minutes... The bar has been raised... :)
Great to see the newest ACC chapter in action! One thing you might want to do is include your attendance numbers. That's the main thing I try to keep up with.

Uh oh, chapter meeting minutes... The bar has been raised... Amen brother!!
Moreover one might think that would be standard operating procedure for any public organization...alas....
Thanks Lapaddld -- P.S. what's the mailing address for those of us that may wish to support the Arklatex chapter?

It is standard for the ACC board meetings. Just not in the chapter meetings, where some chapter presidents are notoriously lazy and want to cover their tracks. :)

Pick a nice warm weekend to go down to San Marcos if you decide to because you are going to want to swim more than boat at the current level of things.

"want to cover their tracks"?
Nothing more than wet bootie prints I presume... :)
Seriously, I do want to extend a thanks to all officers and directors and volunteers -- we know you do what you do because you love what we all do.
TANGENT: And to all -- a reminder -- send in those submissions to our newsletter -- stories, trip reports, cartoons, etc. I recall a quote by Rollo May -- "Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing."
So please continue to post those trips and activities and solicit participation -- In some respects I fear the lack of an open venue within the club whether here on the message board or within newsletter hinders our ability to achive the level of camaraderie so espoused by Rollo but on the river, at the campsite, and while shuttling -- well there we can be freely expressive and truly get to know and enjoy one another. Go paddling!!

Any ideas what kinda article might promote more "family" interest in our Buffy trips? Great opportunity to get in that beginner lesson.

Hey! What's wrong with just drinking beer?! That's our standard program here in the NW Chapter.

oops... begin unhijack....
I think that is what they plan for Red River cleanup and paddle day..........a newbie friendly event to introduce folks who would otherwise be intimidated to paddling.......someone mentioned having a raft available.
And there would be FOOD and beverages...........LOL!
I agree a Buff trip would be FUN FUN FUN too!
