Over 100 volunteers braved the wind and cold on Saturday February 28 to clean up the beloved Mulberry River valley. Many if not most of the volunteers were Arkansas Canoe Club members. Blowing snow and temperatures in the 30s didn't stop the workers from filling two large trailors with trash. The U.S. Forest Service provided the trailors and hauled off the trash. Several groups of canoeists cleaned over 16 miles of the Mulberry with each group working 2 or 3 miles. Because of the cold most chose to pick up the roads and access points along the river. This resulted in a huge trash haul since most of the trash is concentrated around areas where people can drive down to the river. Everyone gathered at Turner Bend after working for a cookout and door prize drawing. There were enough door prizes for most participants to win a prize. Door prizes were provided by The Woodsman, Pack
Rat Outdoor Center, Lewis and Clark Outfitters, Southtown Sports, Lizard Springs Lodging, Mulberry Mountain Lodging, Rivertowne Bar B Q, Post Winery, Weiderkehr Wine Cellar, Mt Bethel Winery, The Arkansas Stream Team, Belle Pt Beverage. Burford Distributing, and Turner Bend. Without this yearly effort the Mulberry River valley wouldn't shine like it now does. Thank You to all who contributed or participated. Brad Wimberly
