Help Us Put the Legislature to work for us!!!!
Help Us Put the Legislature to work for us!!!!
Join us this Thursday Feb 26 to tell your legislators that Arkansas needs better energy and water policies for our economy, our people and our environment. If we want healthy free flowing streams in Arkansas this is one of the most important things that you can do. Meet your representatives and the Governor tell them how you feel. Come for the whole day or only a part.
We'll have a press conference to announce legislation expanding energy efficiency programs that will create jobs, save consumers money and help the environment. Over lunch we'll review new water policy packets prepared by Audubon Arkansas highlighting facts on water challenges facing Arkansas. We'll promote conservation easements to protect
critical watershed habitat.
Lawmakers need to hear from YOU! Come for part or all of the day. The Arkansas Legislature is your government. You can make a difference.
Please RSVP online, email Congress@CitizensFirst.org, or call Brett at (501) 376-7913 x10.
The Lobby Day Agenda
7:30am - Breakfast with your legislators. Talk about the issues over eggs and coffee at the Capitol Hill Apartment Lobby.
9:00am - Attend hearings of key committees at the legislature to see how the process works. Conservation easement bill is likely to come up.
11:30am - Press conference on efficiency, renewable and other energy legislation
12:00pm - Lunch at the Arkansas Education Association building for presentation on Arkansas' Water Future and release of water fact sheets by Audubon AR.
1:30pm - Tour the Capitol and attend the meetings of the Arkansas House and Senate. We'll help you find your legislators that you may have missed at breakfast so you can make sure they know what you think of the issues.
2:30pm - Adjourn

A little on-line coverage about today.
It was a jolly green day...
"... for environmental groups at the Capitol today. Arkansas Citizens First Congress, a coalition of over 40 groups from across the state, held a press conference to announce the filing of a series of bills that would implement the recommendations of the Arkansas Governor's Commission on Global Warming. Rep. Steve Harrelson said the bills, which have not been filed yet, will likely draw a good deal of opposition. One of the bills, to be filed by Rep. Joan Cash, D-Jonesboro, would require the Arkansas Public Service Commission to expand existing energy efficiency programs carried out by utility companies. Roy Ragland, R-Dark Ages, has a bill that would do the exact opposite."
