Re: River Boards
They are not easy to find around here. I'd check Colorado and WV message boards and such. I can tell you that having used one a bit in AR, I came the the conclusion that the water here is mostly too slow and shallow for a riverboard. Riverboarders usually like water that is fast (it sucks to kick your way through pools) and deep (sucks to hit shallow shoals and such). If you do it, wear thick wetsuit pants and pads too if you can find some that'll stay on. However, don't let that deter you. I'd love to see river boarders on the Piney or Tot sometime soon! :-)

Re: River Boards
Saw a couple of riverboarders on the Gauley last September. Can't remember exactly where it was, but didn't see 'em run any of the big stuff. I guess you don't need "bridge the hole" in your vocabulary when you're in/on/clinging to one of those things.

Re: River Boards
The crazy thing is that riverboarders tend to flush right through big holes that I avoid like crazy in my kayak. They run all the big stuff on the Gauley and I once went down the Upper Yough with a riverboarder who ran a lot of holes I didn't. Granted you need some pretty big cajones to do it...

Re: River Boards
Like Heath said, I have a Morey river board(don't believe it's in production any longer) and carried it over to Dierks a few years ago. It surfed great in the holes. I tried it at Rockport one year but it was more difficult to catch the waves there. I've never used it downriver. Might be good from Ed Banks down if the level wasn't too bony...not too much flatwater to have to swim through. I always take mine to the beach; makes a great body board. I believe Cadron Boy used to have some river boards, too, and has used them for river running in the past...maybe the Nantahala, etc. I could bring it back to Dierks some day it's running if anyone's interested.

Re: River Boards
I've paddled with a guy and his son who riverboarded the Lower Gauley, they had a hoot, and didn't miss anything. Pretty cool. Dale
Re: River Boards
Radar's nephew had one on the occee and ran tablesaw 6 or 7 times and did spiral rolls in the air off of the waves.. way cool.
Dennis
ps may have Billy try to get in touch with Radar maybe he has the board in the garage and you can get that one.

Re: River Boards
Looks like Dragorossi is producing some cool river boards.
check it out here:http://www.dragorossi.com/river_surf.html
I knew Prijon built some shorties with handholds all over them for comfort and or convenience but I cannot find them. I guess they aren't offering them anymore. Might find a used one if you inquire here: http://www.mountainbuzz.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We also have a morey boogie board, it rocks down at rockport ledge, it is a very good workout too. Katie you are welcome to use it anytime. Also have the fins for kicking with your feet. Tim
