Richland road blocked by trees

Pam and I drove up there this afternoon. I can't believe how much work you guys put-in to clear out what you did, thaks to everyone involved. As far as the creek, most of the damage seemed to be further up on the slopes and hillsides, but I still think the creek will be chock full. Dale

Man, have we been cursed w. Richland lately or what?! First the huge landslide, now more landslides and trees, not to mention what the creek is like. An amazing run that is hard to catch now has become even more difficult to paddle. I think we should get a huge massive throwdown party together. Clear wood all day and party all night!

Since I could not make it up there this past weekend, I can come up Saturday and Sunday (hopefully with Scott) and help work on the road and hike the creek. I don't have a chainsaw, but can help haul off the cut limbs and trees.

From the reports I've heard, every road in North Arkansas is like this! Sounds like almost the whole state of Kentucky is as bad.

I should be up there to help out this weekend. The 'cruiser, chainsaw, and I were bummed a bit cause we weren't there. Kid with Mono and house chores keeps you close to home.

It's going to be an interesting spring with all that downed wood in the creeks. Was there anything in piney yet?

WHOA - WHOA - WHOA - Dale, I think you misunderstood! My post was immediately following yours but I was directing my to "Dangerboy" Viser for proposing a "future" clearing party! (And I only poked him because I thought he would like it.) I knew YOU were wanting to be there and had to work! See my comment on the other thread for how I feel about you and Pam!

On a related topic, I've been thinking that if folks are serious about going up next Saturday / Sunday to do something, we have a great opportunity here for building some good relationships with the locals near Richland. I'm thinking in particular of the family / families that live near the Lower Richland take-out. If we get enough people, we could clear the Road to the campground, AND send a work contingent down to Eula to do whatever is needed for a few hours.

I'm sure these folks are annoyed when boaters show up to park near their property entrance after every rain; if we showed up with a crew of folks with at least two chain saws, we could work for just a few hours this coming weekend and reap a decade of improved relations by getting a tree or two cut up, maybe stacking a supply of firewood to help out until the power comes back on...

Dale, do you or Pam have any Beta on who lives down there?

Some stats - On Sunday, after we had gotten completely "warmed up", with 4 to 5 saws running and maybe a dozen people total, we managed to clear road at a rate of 0.4 mph. Rate can vary considerably as you hit areas of greater or lesser damage, or more trees hanging from hillsides vs. laying across the road and easier to get at.

We have something between 0.7 and 1.0 miles left to go.

Bottom line, if we get a big crew on next Sunday, Feb 8th, we should be able to finish the job AND have enough time to go help the families down at Eula some. If too many people show up late or find other things to do, it could all crumble.
