Piney shuttle road info

Post by Renee H » Fri Jan 30, 2009 10:06 am

From the Moore Outdoors website: (this was posted yesterday morning)

Big Piney Creek Current Conditions
Last updated

01/29/09 8:00 a.m.

Big Piney at Long Pool - 5.6

Big Piney at 164 Twin Bridges - 5.13

We missed most of the ice storm here, but Treat road, especially along Maupin Flat, is covered in downed trees. The forest Service was up there yesterday, but don't know if they got it all or not.

Yep, thanks a bunch for the info. Thinking about going, but sounds like 4WD is a necessity. Anyone know if the upper Mulberry's accessible. Ice missed the Frog pretty much completely from what I can ascertain, and Lee Cr. is accessible from the pavement (Hwy 220 south).

American Whitewater lists a creek to put-in making for a shorter shuttle but adding a couple of miles to the float (Helton's to Longpool). My having never been there before, ya'll think it would still be accessable and/or worth it? Is it easy to find?

Jim, that's Indian Creek but last spring when we ran that, we had a couple portages. There might be some new trees down. It's not a bad float when it's clear.

I think it's a worth while run. Theirs probably not enough water to run it now. And portages, well I have not run it since the big bad washout which caused it all. I'm sure Indian is still pretty tree strewn.

4WD is not needed to get to helton's. i have a 2WD little chevy pickup with slicks on it and we made it there yesterday (with alot of slip and sliding).

One thing you will need to get there is a good alternator, mine went out yesterday as we were running shuttle....
