Paddle for the Planet

Post by Jeremy M » Thu Jan 22, 2009 8:25 am

Hey everyone,

There has been some talk about this on another thread, but I figured it was time to give you the low down on what's going on with this Paddle for the Planet thing. I'm planning on a short presentation at the Central Chapter meeing this month and hopefully at the River Valley Chapter meeting as well.

The spirit behind this event is the addage of the environmental movement to "Think Globally and Act Locally" On April 26, 2009 at Entergy Park in Hot Springs, AR we are hoping to assemble over 350 canoes and kayaks for about a 5 mile paddle on Lake Hamilton to raise awareness for a variety of Environmental Issues in Arkansas. Why 350? 350 parts per million of Carbon Dioxide is the safe upper limit determined by climatologists to prevent widespread Global Climate Change. Thats the thinking globally part. What issues will we be paddling for? Each participant gets to decide and a list will be compiled to send to the appropriate state legislature. This is acting locally.

The event also will serve as a fund raiser for the ACC Conservation Fund, another "acting local" componet.

I think that about covers the basic information. To find out more and to register for the event please visit.... http://www.paddle4theplanet.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Its going to take a lot of people to make this event happen, if you'd like to volunteer to help before the event or if you know of a business that would like to become a sponsor please contact..... info@paddle4theplanet.com

Thank you all very much, Lets make the largest Environmental Statement Arkansas and the surrounding states have ever seen.
