The Education Committee is making plans for ACA instructor certification classes for canoe and kayak this spring. Both classes will be at the whitewater level (ACA Level 4). Gordon Black will be the instructor trainer for the kayak class and Sam Fowlkes will be the IT for the canoe class. The IDW (Instructor Development Workshop) will be the weekend of April 17-19 probably on the Mulberry (but definitely someplace in Arkansas) and will probably begin by noon on Friday. The ICE will be May 15-17 and will be "out east" (NC/TN/AL) because Class III water is essential for certification and we don't want to risk not having adequate water here. The cost will be $250.00 which includes the class fee, some meals, and any camping fees. Candidates must be ACA (American Canoe Association) members, and will also need to join the SEIC of the ACA before the class begins. Candidates will also be required to obtain the ACA Instruction Manual and a student packet before the class begins. More information on the ACA certification requirments including instructor criteria can be found on the ACA website at http://www.americancanoe.org/site/c.lvI ... ructor.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Classes are limited to 10 candidates and we will need at least 6 or 7 candidates per class to make it cost effective. If you are interested please contact me -- dktucker@windstream.net -- to sign up for the kayak class or Walter Felton at wfelton@ipa.net to sign up for the canoe class.
