LRC FYI

Post by Cathy » Mon Jan 19, 2009 1:38 pm

Just a quick note on Humpty Dumpty for you folks that might paddle out in Alabama this Spring. The sieve to the right of the boof rock is much more in play now... I've personally seen one really good boater go through the sieve at 8 in last weekend and know of three other friends going through there in the past month. We all know not to be too far left when going for the boof but also be careful now not to be too far right and dry up on the rock or you will potentially end up getting sucked backwards and to the right into the sieve.

Thanks for the heads up. That's one of my favorite rapids, but it's got spooky potential. I still remember scouting it my first time years ago and listening to Sonny Solaman tell the tale of when a paddler in their group got sucked into an underwater pocket in the rocks on the right. They could hear him, but couldn't find him! That was right before the big bottom hole rather politely decided to leave my shoulder in the socket, but strained the hell out everything attaching my arm to my body and I ended up swimming with one arm for the bank.
