I usually don't sign petitions unless I have more information than was provided by this request. While I am in favor generally, of not clearcutting forests to harvest timber, if someone owns a mountain, I see no reason to not let them mine it within reguations if they do not polute others resources. Rock has to come from somewhere if you want it elsewhere. Nothing was said here about how the mining would and could affect the water quality, just an inferred statement that it would. If it is an eyesore, show us some pictures. Give me more data, rather than just a blind plea to save something named Gaulley, and I might write letters that were informed and believed in. I didn't see any facts on Boater talk when I signed in there.

If I remember correctly, I signed a petition and donated to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy for this last year. They were trying to stop mountaintop removal coal mining in the Appalachians. The way it was explained, instead of companies mining down into the mountains for coal, they would just cut off the whole top of the mountain down to the level of the coal for instant access.

The mountain is set to be mined for coal. The method they use is to knock the top off the mountain and push the resulting debris down the side of it, thus it will run off into the surrounding streams. Imagine if some one starting knocking off the top of Magazine mountain and then just pushing the debris in your favorite creeks.

You probably have to sign in on Boatertalk and then go to the forum and scoll down untill you see the posts for it.

Read the responses on the threat to the Middle Fork of the Salmon in Idaho to compare information level being provided.
