Joe Tarver will post when the UALR pool opens back up after the holidays...in case he doesn't see the question right away, I'll say it seems to me from years past that it might not open again until mid to late January. Once it's open again, it will be 2-5 on Saturdays, but still check the board every week because sessions can be canceled from week to week due to swim meets.
It doesn't hurt, either, to post your intention to attend a session and that you are looking to learn...that way if someone who can teach is available, they might make a point to come and help. Also, indicate if you already have your own boat and gear. Folks can bring extra boats/gear and/or lend their boats, but it's best to ask and coordinate that in advance if needed.
I'm up at the pool a good bit when it's open, so perhaps I'll see you all there in the coming weeks/months.
Cheers!

You are correct Heather. The pool will open up for practices as soon as the spring semester starts on the 12th. Weds the 14th. should be good. I haven't heard if Saturday the 17th. is on or not as of yet. I'll inquire and post asap.

Or you can show up this wednesday from 5-7 pm and enjoy this weeks pool session, despite what Bob says.
The post is posted under the normal title.

Wurd-up! pools open, but has lane dividers running the full length of the pool as it is set up for long course training right now. Playboating will not be an option as the lane dividers are as old as the pool and very brittle. Its also supposed to be crowded with swimmers and divers. For those that choose to go, please be courtious to the other pool inhabitants. Good stewardship will guaranty years worth of pool access. Thanks!

Hey Bob -
Trying to understand how they have it set up...will there be any open space for kayaks at all? They don't have lanes across everything, do they?
I'm not sure I can get away for these early hours anyway, but I'm trying to figure out if it'll be worth going just to roll and practice some strokes or not...
And thanks Joe for the update! I don't remember the pool opening back up again this early!!
Thanks!

Yes Lupe, the pools full length has dividers. The center bulkhead was moved to our typical side of play. This makes the ramp inaccessable also. So their are like eight or nine lanes. Add to the fact that their will still be swimmers training, and divers, they might at times take all lanes. Tom did offer up use of the pool, but mentioned that anything other than rolling might be difficult with lane dividers and swimmers.
I'm going to give the swimmers their space this evening considering the lane layout. Next Wednsday will be back to regular time.

Just a little update. As of now, three of the lane dividers have been removed leaving five lanes. They will be practicing diving however, so I wouldn't venture into the deep water untill they clear out from the boards. This now leaves about twenty five by forty or so foot of movement in the shallow end anyway.
Enjoy! Bob

Well, I hate to bring it up this late in the day, but they have all the lane dividers up again. Their has been an out of town College's swim team practicing through the last three days on the long course set up. If they pack it in early enough, it might be possible to clear a lane or two to open the pool up some. No promises!
Also, I was reminded that we close at seven, not just be out of the water by then.
Theres no room for me to play, so unless the dividers come down quik, you will not see me.

Sorry for the issues at the pool tonight everyone. I myself went to see what was going on, since the lifeguard I talked to the other day that checked on pool availability didn't say anything at all about swim practice. I even double checked with him that we were ok for kayak practice from 5-7 pm. He, of course, said yea..you guys should be fine. Well today when I showed up, I saw the lanes up and had no computer access. I will check in with Tom this week and make sure we are good for next wednesday. Of course, classes start by then, so I won't get to go more than likely. Figures.
Anyway, sorry for anyone else being inconvenienced by this. Sometimes things change last minute, and there isn't alot of heads up when they do.
Thanks for the posts alerting folks to the lane problems Bob. I know everyone appreciates the heads up.

Actually things worked out just fine tonight. There were folks swimming in all the lanes when we got there including the widest outside lanes, so I went and talked to the lifeguard and said we were told we could come, so would it be okay if we asked the swimmers to not use one outside lane? I made it clear I wanted to make sure it was okay, and she said it was and she even came over and asked the couple swimmers to move over. We were mostly working with a couple new guys right in the shallow end on learning to roll. Later, when the lifeguard saw that the swimming crowd had thinned out, she actually came over and had the people move out of the next lane over and pulled that lane divider back to give us even more room. That was really nice of her to do - we didn't even ask!
So anyway - we made do just fine - we're just glad to have the resource! Thanks guys!
Cheers,
Heather
