Current/Jack's Fork info??

Looking at setting up a trip up there. Gimme the must sees, the don't worry abouts, anything ya think I needta know.

Outfiiters or should we bring our own boats and shuttles? Is there enough river there for the cataraft? We will prolly do a Fri night till Sunday trip.

the current from the trout park down to pultite is narrow from there down is ok till you get to jacks fork, or twin rivers then the 40 hp jet boats take over,top off up in hardy , drives a long with only one gas station at an outfitters and i
don't know the name? i know this doesn't help alot ( there is some good information on paddling.net) you will be looking for the spring, or fall rendevous ,or look for THEBOB.COM 's post he the man with the plan!!

that'll help. thanks. I wuz also lookin for those first timer's sections and such. Lots of river there and wanting to see as much of the cave and spring action as we could.

Although the Eleven Point is my favorite of the three, I've spent a lot of time on the Current & Jacks Fork.

The Jacks Fork, Grand Canyon of Missouri, is a beautiful little stream with towering bluffs which remind me of the Buffalo. IMHO however, it is best floated in early spring when there is plenty of water. Although there are several springs in its watershed, they are small and it often gets too low for a decent float above Alley Spring. And below Alley Spring the Jacks is less scenic. Therefore, I would stick to the Current this time of year.

With its many large springs high in the watershed, the Current is almost always up enough for a decent float. There is no whitewater here, but it is very swift with few dead pools, so it is easy to make 15 to 20 miles per day and still have plenty of time to get out and view all of the springs & caves. I once did a solo sixty miler (Baptist Camp to Powder Mill) in three days, and had all of the "stretch" time I wanted. However, that was in April with much more daylight. If I were going to do a weekender there right now, I think Cedargrove to Round Spring (26 Miles) would be about right. Welch, Cave & Pulltite springs are the main attractions on this section. Also, if you have time, you might want to drive over to Powder Mill (Owls Bend) and walk the mile down to Blue Spring. It is a real gem. The last time we were there, there was an otter playing around in the spring pool.

Don't know much about the many canoe liveries there, but I'd guess that price-wise, they are pretty much in line with the Buff. Not sure if your cat would be good for the section I mentioned, but I'm guessing you would have enough water for it below Round Spring.
