I'm playing with putting some music mixes together along various themes to give as presents and came upon "Across the River" by Shane Tutmarc & The Traveling Mercies from the "I'm going to live the life I sing about in my song" album (Yes, I heard it on NPR :-))
http://www.npr.org/templates/player/med ... m=17357252" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
which got me thinking about the best river songs and water music and I wondered .....
What would make your paddling playlist?
Paddling Playlist
Re: Paddling Playlist
Wow seark, great topic. =) I'll chime in.
Some definate favorites for paddling for me would have to include:
Song: Artist:
Give the people what they want Jimmy cliff
Amber 311
Start the machine Angels and airwaves
Po' Folks Nappy Roots
Killing in the name of... Rage against the machine
Getting away with murder Papa Roach
Slightly stoopid Basically anything they do
State of love and trust Pearl Jam
Dead on Arrival Fall out boy
Strike Anywhere Blaze/ Amplify
For slower floats: Jimmy buffett, Jack Johnson, Kenny Chesney, Slightly stoopid ( again )
Those are but a few. Incidentally, I have every intention to get a waterproof ipod case and headphones from H2OAudio, when I get the cash. I love having music with me at all times..esp. on the river.

And all this life we've glorified
Robbin' from the blind
It's not easy, you see
Don't think i don't know sympathy
My victims in my shadow
Starin' back at me
Robbin' from the blind
It's not easy, you see
Don't think i don't know sympathy
My victims in my shadow
Starin' back at me

Re: Paddling Playlist
With lyrics like this, you gotta include Aerials by System of a Down.

Life is a waterfall,
We're one in the river,
And one again after the fall.

Re: Paddling Playlist
Well some new ones for my playlists already. I liked Slightly Stoopid's "souled" and "sweet honey".
Love the "Aerials" lyric - didn't like their video, but closed my eyes and immediatley pictured a ww video.
On a different beat, I have to add Lyle Lovett's "If I had a boat" and his "How Time Slips Away" duet with Al Greene to my list, the latter would be a great soundtrack to choreograph a flatwater freestyle to.
Oh, and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Swamp Music" - for us bayou-loving paddlers.
