O.T. Dual Sport motorcycles

Post by Phil in K.C. » Tue Dec 09, 2008 1:04 pm

Anybody ride ? When gas got high and the creeks dried up we decided it was time to get back into dirt bikes.. street legal dirt bikes... been may years and it is more fun than ever. Been riding around home and in the St. Francis watershed area. You guys are 10 deg warmer than KC most of the time so we might just head that way soon. All the dirt roads around Turners Bend will be explored....any other ideas??

The roads are fun to ride, but, you might also check in with Zen at Byrd's. They have a route that they allow 4WD vehicles to run. I'll bet it would be fun on a dirt bike.

Let me know when you gear up. I'll join you if I can.

Also Superlift ORV park has trails for bikes and Wheelers.
There are also some prety sweat trails around Clevland in the Ozark National Forest. Let me know when you go I got a bike, and a prety bad Taco thanks to Paul.

Luke,
One of these days we will be able to run the Cadron without seeing a tire.

Phil,

Andy Cheshier and I are two more people in the club who have trail bikes/street legal. Last time we visited, we were 'waxing nostalgic' about using them as 'alternate' shuttle vehicle on occasion.
I sure love my bike, a Kawasaki Super Sherpa, and when not riding domestic errands to town, have thoroughly enjoyed taking it to my farm and vicinity near Arkadelphia, or riding the roads in the Ouachita National Forest, fairly near us in Benton. I do especially like it when I can get Marlo to take the 4-wheeler along with lunch on board :D
I know you will probably be most interested in the Northwest area of the state but I can also recommend the Western Ouachitas near Mena. It's been several years, but the Wolf Pen ORV trail had some great views and plenty rugged terrain within.

Best Regards
Jim Moose

Thanks to all! We are really looking forward to coming down soon. Will for sure try to hook up. Be great if we had an excuse to bring boats too!

And as long as we are talkin' Hot Springs: Consider visiting Cedar Glades Park -- this is a really cool place. The climbing wall really rocks!! It sits on a hillside so you get the thrill of some exposure and it has enough variation to serves the interests of every type of rock climber. Then you have 15 miles of mountain bike trails meandering over the 400+ acre park and beyond (recently voted best trails in the state by the Arkansas Mountain Bike Racing Series). And then to top it off a disc golf course designed by premier disc golf architect John Houck. Put it all together and you have one great place to spend a day.

P.S. Shame they are not currently allowing open access to Bonanza and Dripping Springs. The trail up to these springs and the waterfall really need to be open to the public -- but alas Wildcat Road is currently closed due to lingering 9/11 anxieties and access to Hot Springs Reservoir.

I thought I'd pipe in here as I too have been considering adding a DP scooter to my fleet of toys. The Superlift Park in Hot Springs is twelve hundred plus acres of some serious wooded hills. Each of the trails there have three ratings at the trail head of which are all one way, so as to not have trafic jams in the woods. The ratings are for vehicles, motorcycles and four weelers. Their are trails I would definatly love to ride on. Most of the trails I run aren't that dificult, but the rating for two wheeled vehicles would not be very low. Each trail gets a one to five rating in each catagory.
Their is also a campground which is now open most all year round now. And the new showers and restrooms are climate controlled.
If you go, try and spend the whole weekend, becouse you will never run out of fun, only energy.
The day use fee for the park differs depending on what type membership you have, or don't have. And also as to what type vehicle you plan on using while there. It's like twelve bucks a day for four wheel drives and about half that for scooters and fourwheelers. I do hope some of you will take advantage of this one of a kind location for Arkansas. Live long and ride hard!

Don't forget Moccasin Gap. This would put you near a LOT of really nice places.
