North Dallas Area
North Dallas Area
My girlfriend just moved to North Dallas. I was wondering does anybody have any recomendations for hiking trails, nature areas, WMA areas, places to canoe or flatwater kayak say within about 30 min to 1 1/2 hour from the DFW area.
...Well I guess theres nothing wrong with what you say, but don't sell me their can't be better ways..
Re: North Dallas Area
Lots of biking around DFW without having to drive far. Several nature preserves for mountain biking, and two great urban trails for road biking. If you don't have a bike and want to enjoy the outdoors around DFW, I highly suggest you get one.
Rowlett Creek Nature Preserve: Mountain Biking (or hiking - just watch your back - the bikes come fast)

Other mountain bike trails here:

Katy Trail: Road Biking

White Rock Lake Trail: Road Biking or Hiking:

Excellent "scenery" on the road bike trails. Don't tell your girlfriend I said that - or mine either.

Re: North Dallas Area
Thanks for the info. Dallas is not my kind of place and so I will def. need some outdoor exposure when I am down there. I hope when I end up moving down there it will not be for long. Hoping she might be able to move on up to the North East where I can have plenty of paddle oppurtunities.

Re: North Dallas Area
Check out the Dallas Backpackers and Hikers Meetup Group. I ran into them out on Eagle Rock Loop and they're really active. There's also some kayaking groups on there in the Dallas area.

p.s. If you hurry, you can still sign up for their trip this weekend to Enchanted Rock. They have a Colorado snowshoeing trip next month that sounds pretty cool too.

Re: North Dallas Area
For hiking, Dallas has some of the finest malls and parking garages anywhere. I personally think North Park and the Galleria provide the quintessential North Texas hiking experience. Nature areas can be found outside most business complexes with man-made streams and color-lighted water fountains. For flatwater paddling, she may want to consider going to some of the water hazards on any of our local golf courses, or rent an apartment or home with a swimming pool.

Indeed, Mall Walking is a popular activity around DFW. There may even be a Mall Walkers club with message board as well. I'll check it out for you and will hook you up if I can find one...

Re: North Dallas Area
