Buffalo from Carver... enough water now for a decent float?

Post by mcmurma » Thu Oct 23, 2008 5:50 pm

Planning to put onto the Buffalo for a camping trip Friday afternoon 10/24, and have been concerned that there might not be ample to water to float without dragging the boat "too" much. (a little dragging here and there is fine)

We'll be in 12 ft rec kayaks loaded with gear for 8 days. Not sure it that makes a big difference.

So what do the buffalo vets think? Is there plenty of water of water to put in at Carver, or should we opt for another spot further down?

BTW, the plan is to go slow. Real slow. No more than 7 river miles or so a day. Put in and take out are currently set at Carver to Buffalo Point.

Any thoughts appreciated.

If I was on the trip I would suggest moving downstream. You are wanting to do about 60 miles. If you don't mind going in the Lower Wilderness area, thats what I would Recommend. You are most likely going to be dealing with a rock garden below Carver. There is one also before you get to the White so those cancel each other out.
I would put in at Gilbert and float to Shipps Ferry on the White.

If you are committed to the Carver to Buffalo Point Run, I would suggest modifying it to take out either at Hwy 14 bridge or Rush. You avoid having to drag your stuff up the steep gravel bar at Buffalo Point.
